Noticed that this site is called 'itistheride' and not 'scoot-something'? In other words, I thought since there are so many threads about scooters, what about (cheap) motorcycles? While the big brands usually don't go under $5k new price, there's quite a good amount of chinese bikes to be gotten for under $3k, and under $2k as well! I would like a list of new motorcycles, that are cheap, and good enough for the beginner and more seasoned riders amongst us. I've compiled a list of a few of my personal favorites. If you have found any NEW, good, cheap, and unique bikes, post them, their cc's and avg price including shipping if applicable. On number one, due to the low price, is the: Roketa MC-05-127For just over $1000 at your front door, 127cc, 55-65MPH, -100MPG (with sprocket change). 2: Suzuki TU250x$4k, 80-85MPG, 70+MPH for great MPG! 3: Kawasaki Ninja 300: 100+ MPH, 48MPG, $5-6k, for speed! 4: Honda Grom:125cc, ?~60-65MPH, ?~100-120MPG, ?~$3-4k for budget and MPG 5: Chinese clones, of the grom 125cc (~$1600): Of the old style Camino: ~$1400, 110cc Enduro motorcross bikes with road tires, 250cc for ~$2k: Chinese 250cc bobber for ~$2,5k: Chinese 250cc mini Chopper for ~$2,3k: Chinese 250cc racing bike, for ~$2,1k: Chinese 250cc Honda Rebel clone (with Lifan engine), ~$2,6k: Chinese 250cc Naked bike, ~$2,4k: www.scooterdepot.us/250cc-street-legal-motor-bikes-sport-motorcycles-p-744-286.htmlAnd seemingly the Chinese company Jialing, is going to release a Yamaha born 600cc naked bike soon: www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/newsresults/user/2008/August/Naked-600s-from-China/

I really like that TU 250x! I'll have to look into it. Here is my contribution. I owned a 2001 suzuki GS500, bought for $2000 used, put about 500 into it to fix a few things and get new tires. This is a 2001: Can't find a pic of a new 2013 model, but I believe they can be had for around $5k Great starter bike, or commuter, or fun economical toy Ninja makes a very comparable bike in 500cc also. Here is a pic of a ninja 500 I find attractive: Another great beginner bike is the SV650. The first generation 2000-2002 or so can be had for around $2500:

One that caught my attention is the Hyosung (Korean) GV250. It's a Cruiser-styled fuel-injected 250cc V-twin. MSRP of $3999. Specs state ~80mpg while reviews I've read says it has a top speed over 90mph. No personal experience, but it has my interest, and I even have a local dealer in my area. Also available, 250cc V-twin racing body: ...and in an open-body style...

Just digging up an old article. I'm not too happy about the standard response of the single cylinder 250cc thumper engine. It's operating just as expected, the same on just about all chinese motorcycles (whether they be manual geared, or CVT, burgman clone or retro style, they all get about the same acceleration and top speed.
So far, I guess my interest goes to the Ninja 300, but I really wished there where more fuel efficient 500cc bikes out there. Suzuki starts from 650cc with their S40 thumper, which many people say rattles at high speeds (too big of a cylinder for a single cylinder bike), and their smallest sports bike is the GSXR600. Both of them, fuel economy could be better for a motorcycle, and price is over double what I'm willing to spend for them!

... too happy about the standard response of the single cylinder 250cc thumper engine.... more fuel efficient... S40 thumper, which many people say rattles at high speeds ... I know the S40, rode my Savage from 2004 to 2011, you can search on my blog for "savage" www.dslretorts.com/Paladin/ Regarding: Acceleration -- very bikes are touch it when the traffic signal goes green. Fuel efficiency -- I got a little under 50 mpg in the city. But that is riding 50% moving / 50% sitting at red lights, WOT to the speed limit (which was generally when I cleared the intersection.) But I had fun. In the Interstate, touring, I got 60-65 mpg doing 70-65 mph. From Parker AZ to Palm Springs CA I got 70 mpg doing 55 mph across the Mojave. Savage vs. Vespa got/get 50 mpg vs. 70 mpg in the city -- but 65 mpg vs. 60 mpg on the Interstate. The 652cc motorcycle had higher mpg than the 151cc scooter. Vibration -- Suzuki did *too* good of a job with the balancer, the thumper had far less vibration I expected or even wanted, Thumpers are suppose to vibrate. 75 mph on the Interstate is very comfortable. On the Harbor Freeway in L.A. the vibration was not bad until + mph, but that may have been the pavement. If you want to cruise at 80+ mph you do not want the S40. When I killed my Savage (note: letting oil too low is not smart) I considered a new S40 -- but I will not be doing high speed touring and my knees and hips don't like swinging over the saddle, hence the Vespa.
