Stock scoots runs lean with the 75 jet, moderately rich with , but when i put in a 80 it cuts out about half throttle. Should be ideal with an 80 but dont understand what the issue is

Whats the plug look like? Did it run good with the stock jet? Are there any mods, and what kind? When it bogs try to put a sock or restrict the air box a little if it gets worse,,think your too rich..if it gets better you need to up jet.
Make sure the bog isn't related to a fuel delivery issue like the pet cock or tank vent either...
Gotta play around bro and give us more info...

Plug slightly black on the bottom of the base and about 3 threads up. The center kinda tan colored. Ran ok with stock 75 but was too lean from the factory so i ordered a new carb and it happened to come with an jet. That also ran fine except rich. In the mornings cold start its very rich until it warms up then runs great. So i ordered an 80 to split the difference and its either lean or rich...cant tell. I put the back in and runs fine. i have no mods.

The needle jet maybe different than your stock carb. And or set at a different height. Reset your a/f also.

The "80" jet may not really be for your carb but a different one, or it was mislabeled. But the carb you got may be for a different engine (larger displacement) and is setup for it. The CV carbs have a piston inside that moves up and down with demand, in the middle of the piston is a tapered needle and it may be setup differently. The carb may also have a larger inside bore in it too. You can also determine the hole size for a 80 jet and get a drill bit to match and drill out the 75 jet carefully. But if the jet is working, I would likely just go with it instead and not bother trying to split the difference.

Are needles interchangeable?

Usually they are, you can compare the two needles to each other. MArk one so you know which carb it came from before you pull them out to look. They usually are the same needle, but they could be different with a different length and or taper to them. Some needles might even have different grooves on the retainer end too.
