Im gonna buy the gears for my black galaxy I usually use 16 50.gears and have been happy with the results but I haven't tried anything else I have been looking at the hoca sets from partsforscooters I called and asked about them not much info. I'm wanting to try something different but don't want to destroy my hill climb and torque. The 16 50 set has done me good on several scoots so its hard not to stick to them

Here is some info from the Totalruckus forums 14 front 36 rear = decent top speeds (larger hills, better takeoff) 14 front 37 rear = slower top speeds (larger hills, better takeoff) 14 front 38 rear = slower top speeds (large hills, great takeoff) 14 front 39 rear = slowest top speed, high torque (mountain climber) Best for people who have to climb large hills alot but sacrifice top speed. Low 40's mph 15 front 36 rear = good top speeds (small hills, good takeoff) 15 front 37 rear = good top speeds (average hills, decent takeoff) Best balanced. Mid 50's mph 15 front 38 rear = good top speeds (small hills, slow takeoff) 16 front 36 rear = high speeds (small hills, decent takeoff) 16 front 37 rear = high speeds (flat roads, slow takeoff) 16 front 38 rear = high speeds (flat roads, slow takeoff) 17 front 36 rear = highest speeds (flat roads, slowest takeoff) Best top speed but takes a while to get there. Mid 60's mph

I have a set of hoca 16/42 gears, but haven't installed them yet. I currently have a 16/50 set in my trike now, and I loose a lot of up hill speed already. I am like you thinking It will really slow down on the hills. I may try them when I finally get around to installing the stroker engine I have built. I just don't have much time to mess with it these days. I also have an airsal kit I am wanting to install. I might try the gears when I get it installed.

Ok i called back to partsforscooters talked to susan. Shes says the 18 46 set will be best for take off and hill climb even though its a lower ratio than the 16 42 set maybe because the bigger 18 tooth not sure ? Hate to get them and they kill me off on the hills and half to rebuy a 16 50 set they are double the price if I get them ill report the results
