Well the good news is that after droping my needle, the bikes actually faster on flat ground. Seems it was getting too much gas, flooding out slightly, weird, but the speedo went past 40 almost to the half way mark to 45. Its about 1 mph faster than gps.
I'm gona lower it all the way and see what happens...
At any rate, when the speedo was reaching 40 it sounded almost like the valves takeing turns in and out.
I have a blue cdi, no rev limit. Could the case be I was reving too fast? And overworking the engine?
My yamaha c3 would get up to 50 downhill and didn't sound rough at all. These gy6 engines sound crazy at high rpms!

I find hearing valves on mine seems counter intuitive. Im told that they tapping sound is a good thing and means they are tuned properly. I hear em at 20 and also at 40. they are not going to go away at any speped. A tach was one of my better investments. That way youll know where your rpms are.
Its more of a buzzing at those speeds. Im running at 7800 rpm and thats ideal. They open and close so fast that it almost merges the sound.

Ticking valves are good you know they are not to tight and not to loose. If the make a CLATTERING noise then you know they are to loose. And let me tell you, you will know the difference from ticking and clattering. Alleyoop

If valve clearance is too small, you'll hear it makes more noise when the engine is warmed up.
Also, it could get tighter with carbon deposit on the valves. Use B12 or Seafoam from time to time. It will decrease wear, and the need to do a valve clearance.

At 40+ mph with the engine maxed out the valves would be moving so fast I doubt you would be able to hear any individual ticking. They would be a buzzing if anything. These engines make all kind of crazy noise especially at high revs if they are set right don't worry and just ride that thing...
Ticking at that speed us likely suspension or drive related check all you nuts bolts and fasteners for piece of mind

Well ok, cool! Ill pay close attention at diffrent temps. But it was a smooth alternateing tick tick tick tick sound but much louder than at say 35mph. I wasn't too concerned because it runs great!

Sounds like a Speedo puck or slight brake rubbing. Neither is anything to worry about.

I'd have to agree that valve sounds you could probably only hear below 25 or 30MPH. Above and it's drowned in the road noise, and wind.
