So, Hank recommended I tap out my drain bolt hole, Alleyoop recommended I get the permacoil M8 1.25 kit to do so. I just did the procedure with the permacoil kit and so far my gear oil isn't leaking. Probably would have had to buy a new engine, tap out to a larger bolt, or pay a mechanic a $100 to fix it. But I just paid roughly $40 to do it myself. So... Great. Thanks a lot, Alleyoop. The procedure went as follows... I drained my gear oil, the threads were so bad on the bolt hole that I was able to loosen it by hand until it was stuck on a broken thread and I had to pry it out with a screwdriver. Then I tried using my grandfather's 21/64 drill bit to drill out the hole as per direction. Did that for about an hour before realizing I was using a wood drill bit, no big deal I planned on going to ace to get a tap wrench anyway. So I went to ace and got the METAL penetrating 21/64 drill bit and the tap wrench. When I got home it took approximately 3 seconds to drill out the hole with the metal penetrating drill bit. Then it took another few minutes to tap out the hole, then even less time to insert the thread. My kit didn't come with anything to punch the tang, but that was no problem as I had one of my grandpa's punches that did the trick. I then ran some gear oil through it to wash out the metal shavings. Good as new.

[replyingto=redroush00]redroush00[/replyingto]you must drill & tap the hole oversized in order to thread in a helicoil or permacoil or any thread repair kit. Usually the tap and installation tool is included with the kit. In most cases, they work out really well.

By the way, do you have all your mods dialed in for optimal performance yet? would like the details, top end, 1/2-3/4/throttle cruising, hillclimbing... How does she run?

[replyingto=salracer]sailracer[/replyingto]Well, not quite. I had a sock covering my UNI filter to richen up my fuel but then my UNI fell off so I've been sidelined for a while now. In the mean time I've installed a new jet and have tinkered on the great leap so she should run for optimal performance soon. I may have to get one size down of dr. pulley slider weights, but otherwise the last time I rode it she was pullin' 50mph. Hill climbing isn't so good as I haven't gotten a torque spring yet. I'm barely going 35-40mph up hill. I ordered a torque spring and the one I got is for 150cc scooters. So now I have to order a new one... I've taken the clutch off and apart before though so it should be a piece of cake. Thanks for asking!
