I say trikes should only be used to keep bikers on the road after the have grown to old or are stricken with illnesses that prevent the from riding an actual bike. You did ask what we thought right? Forgive me I'm a purist |

I actually have more of an issue with the destruction of what are becoming rare classic cars. The VW is an icon in automotive history and all efforts should be made to keep them in one piece on the road... Sure drive what you want its a free country. I am of the opinion that neither a scooter or a bug should be destroyed to make a trike when there are trikes already made... To each his own at least I wasn't unclear. His money, if destroying a classic car doesn't bother him, not much I can do. I personally shed a tiny tear every time I see a perfectly good motorcycle that has been triked going down the road. Maybe its just the wind though...

The bugs where in production until 2003. After the 1980's they made them (cloned) in Brazil.
A lot of these (rust) boxes are clones, and not original german craftsmanship anymore.

Non German bugs were rarely imported from Brazil or Mexico, prodigit the vast majority in the US are German check out www.thesamba.com if you want to learn more. I have been restoring VW's for a while now I guess I like them almost as much as bikes. Touchy subject for me I suppose... |

i can pick a vw trany up by myself and have done so may times if you need to biuld a vw trike then find a vw that is a total rust bucket to do it with it will save you money on buying it and will not destroy one that can be restored

My neighbor and I restored a VW for his son. Went to the junk yard and bugs all over the place. Need a part not a problem just bring the tools to take off the parts. Want a VW motor that actually runs that is also not a problem. They built so many there are millions even out on farms laying around rusting.

Theee are a lot of good projects one can dao with and old bug. WhenI was a kid out in the desertthe most. Popular thing to do was to make a dune bug out of them.
