Hello guys, new forum, me like OK, for a long time now I've been trying to get my wife to get on the scoot with me, but she`s afraid, tried to get her to learn to ride it, yes, she`s afraid. so I've been thinking (been accused of that now and again) of building a vw trike, use the front end of my scoot and getting the rear end of a vw, I`ll just need the engine & tranny. and I can do the work myself. so what do guys think? give me your opinions. Latter. Louie.

I have seena lot of VW trikes, most of them look like a home built.
I have seen one that looked sharp and wouldn't mind having it, wish I knew the nameof the body kit he put on it. All of them used big motorcycle forks up front, I think I would do the same for safety's sake.

The VW tranny is very heavy! Takes 2 adults to lift it! They'll last though!
And most VW's ran with 800-1600cc engines, so unless you cut out 50% of the car, you probably will need a 4 stroke 4 cylinder engine to push the mass. A 250cc just won't cut it I believe!

You do not use the Scoot or motorcycle motor all you do is replace the front with a Motorcycle front end or scoot front end the back still has the VW motor in it: Alleyoop

I have worked on several VW trikes and have built 2. They are not for the beginning rider. They have a lot of torque and it does not take much to lift the front end off the ground. All that I have seen have wheeley bars.
Also I don't think ( insert that yes I was thinking) that a scooter front end will be heavy enough.

Please don't destroy some poor unsuspecting bug for your wife. In my humble opinion VW trikes are an unholy perversion. Also if you think a scooter is scary wait till you "ride" or drive or whatever you call it, on a trike. I say trikes should only be used to keep bikers on the road after they have grown too old or are stricken with illnesses that prevent them from riding an actual bike.
You did ask what we thought right? Forgive me I'm a purist
