i'm 16 and will soon be getting my permit. I plan to get both a motorcycle permit and a regular (class C) one. Be really been interested in scooters for months now as I work about five minutes from home and the mall is about a 15-20 minute ride.
Here's some background: I'm about 5'5 I weigh about 240 lbs I live in Pittsburgh and there are some substantial hills where I would be riding. My legs are fairly short (for supporting my scooter) I would probably not be using in on the highway any time soon as I don't think my mother would enjoy that very much ;D
I'm looking to keep my budget under $2000. I would ask for any brands or good models that may be right for my needs. Also if you have any experience with online dealers or could suggest one because I only know of one dealer in my area and haven't had the time to look at his selection.
Thanks in advance. Looking forward to being an active part of this forum when I purchase my scooter

adam, and from atl, ga Hope your scooter search is a good one... Check out (I would naturally suggest my very own bike ;D ) Tomos!! My nitro carries me around very well. I'm 193 lbs. Great bike so far, I've had to wrench zero times so far. Just oil changes. I paid $1400 at a dealer (dealers are usually a bit higher) when it had 700 miles. Just given' you an idea of whats out there...

Seems like a solid bike. What are some of the features on it? I've seen ones with cigarette lighter cell phone chargers and mp3 input. I feel like I'm asking for the world with my budget but I'm just so excited I want to see what neat little features I can get with my budget. Thanks again for the quick reply

No features really on mine
But I put a cig lighter on it, purchased at Cyclegear for $10 and just bolts right onto the battery and installed on the dash. And I put a cup holder also on mine. Easy mods, I think I posted pics in that section.
Besides that, My bike has no radio or anything, I have to use my earbuds and phone or MP3 player

Hi Adam! Welcome to the forum!
Based on what you've told us, you probably want a 150cc scooter.
But something else the guys will need to know--are you mechanical at all? Willing to work on your bike as needed? Or are you like me and just thrilled you managed to find the oil dipstick? That makes a big diff what models they'll recommend.

Wow. That's a cool mod.wouldn't have even thought that would be possible. What can you tell me about security? The area I live in is not exactly the safest.

[replyingto=sylvrekat]SylvreKat[/replyingto]Kat, While I may not totally get off on the mechanical aspect. I'm not totally against some maintenance and tune ups. I'm a quick learner too so I could probably pick it up in a snap.

Security wise you might want to check out those wheel alarms they sell I wouldn't mind looking into one of these myself

Just make sure you get something heavy duty. I am amazed at the scooters I see parked down here with a regular bicycle chain. I would never trust one.
I don't know about anyone else but I would worry about ordering a scooter online. If there is any problems you can't just load it up and take it to the dealer to fix.

Yeah, if the alarm is not too sensitive I think I'd like it!

I might invest in one in a year when I finally save up enough for a bike. As far as ordering online goes, it doesn't seem too bad. From what I've read you can pretty much tighten some bolts that have come loose during shipping. If there's any major problems they are quick to get replacement parts. As long as the dealer is reputable of course

Yeah, I'm not to keen on the whole dealer thing and getting parts as of now. I haven't needed parts knock on wood

I'm getting so antsy. I want to just magically conjure up 2000 bucks and run to a dealer right now. Might be a good idea to get my license first but what the heck.
