I replaced my carb yestday and I've been having a heck of a time getting it adjusted. After a few hours now I've finally got it about to where it will idle. Problem is, it seems to sputter on takeoff and it seems to have little power.
Can anyone give me insight as t which way to adjust from here. The c-clip on the needle is set 1 under center. I would also like to add that the fuel filter doesn't seem to stay full and bubbles here and there putting air into the filter from the carb side of the line, is this normal?
I'm completely new to carb adjustment to all help is appreciated. I just wanna ride again and have it stable before I install my bbk as I'm still waiting on a part for it before I can install it.
Thank you -Tim

When you do install your BBK, You are going to have to adjust the carb all over again.,and probably have to re-het too

All the parts that were missing on the BBK are now here ;D Now I just need to get an air filter, exhaust and some jets then I can put it in. I cam into the scooter world not knowing more would be required other than slapping on the BBK

BBK pulls in much more air during idle than before. You are probably too rich (counter intuitive). Main jet depends on your particular scooter. A 72 "typically" needs a -92, but some carbs are different and it can vary between and 96. Greg

[replyingto=z0m8i3]Z0M8I3[/replyingto]Air filter is highly recommended but not necessary, the exhaust is unnecessary but it will increase your power by a bit, jets are necessary.
The air filter I will be using UNI filter, it seems to be highly rated. The exhaust I'm using is from "Techdirect" on Amazon.com, and I'd recommend it because it's one of the cheapest I can find and it works great. The jets can be bought from "power-barn.com".
Good luck!

So I can hold off on exhaust and add an air filter/ main jet and it should run fine for now?

[replyingto=z0m8i3]Z0M8I3[/replyingto]Absolutely. It will limit your power slightly, but if you don't have the extra money then you can easily wait to install a performance exhaust, it shouldn't ruin anything. Just don't forget the exhaust gasket. I will say that having a performance exhaust is totally worth it though. My mom, and others say my scooter sounds like a mini Harley now .

That's awesome to know As far as the Harley sound, I'm all for it but in my area I would like to find one as quiet if not more so than stock while still being a performance exhaust. Does such a thing exist, power plus quietness in the 50cc big bore world? On a side note, for the time being, I put the old carb back on since everything is still stock and it started right up! Is there such thing as a "bad carb" or do I just need to learn how to adjust properly?
