Do it Hank Make sure its not to rare to source parts first... You may even pick the collective brain of the not so modern guys at modernvespa.com/forum/forum19 lots of Lambretta guys there and generally quite knowledgeable. Not as "Family friendly" as it is the ride though and there are no filters in place...

Looks like the scooter won't start now. Originally the owner thought that it was vapor lock. Stated that it would die after 5 miles, but start back up after a couple of minutes. Eventually he could only go a couple of miles, then one mile, then a couple of blocks and now it won't start. A local scooter shop has advised him that it sounds like it needs the top end replaced.... (not a horrible thing, cause I'd wind up putting a big bore kit on it anyways)... but the thing looks new and has only 850 miles on it... I'm having a hard time thinking that it needs a top end. To me it sounds like a fuel/carb issue. Any of you 2-stroke guys/gals have any thoughts... I'm thinking for $500, I may take it on as a project. Though it's no "Lambretta", it looks like a pretty decent little 50cc scooter. Again thoughts and opinions are welcome and appreciated.

The valves need to be adjusted. There is likely nothing wrong with that bike nothing at all. The local shop was looking to make a quick buck...

Your in the 2 stroke section IS THIS a 2T or 4T, If its a 4T follow scootnwinn suggestion FIRST adjust the valves. Then if it still does it It may just be starving for fuel and heats up and dies. It could be that the Fuel flow is not right and is not filling the carb bowl up as it is using it up or it may have a Vacuum link. The fuel tank on those usually are in the back so make sure the FUEL LINE from the tank to the CARB is going downhill they gravity type and fuel has to flow DOWNHILL any ups and downs slows up the fuel flow to the carb. Also the fuel line MUST NOT BE BELOW the carb FUEL INLET. Alleyoop

Duh wasn't paying attention now then why on earth would the local scooter shop think the head was bad? Any way still can't be much wrong unless it has been run without oil. Is it premix or injection?
