Just wondering if there is anyone near or around the Columbia SC area that would be willing to help me fix some stuff on my moped for cash of course... i really honestly have no idea what im doing but have found places for the parts i need... but its prolly a better bet to just take it to the shop but after getting a quote they are telling me i need around 500-600 dollars to fix everything... thanks again

well there are several things... today i was riding it and it started to make some crazy winding up sound coming from what i think was the gear box and then it just shut down... would act like it wanted to crank but just wouldnt... after an hour of sitting at an intersection in the heat... it finally started up again and rode like nothing happend? then i noticed that the back tired seemed odd so i checked it and i think the back baring is broken cause the tire wobbles.... its pretty scary... so i took it to a scooter place and they said i need a new clutch/starter clutch. a new baring, new front brakes, new back drum brakes, and some other part in the rear end that is going to cost around $600 for everything including the labor!

First I keep I close eye on my back tire, because the axle nut can work loose and it will wobble. I would change gear oil, it may be low and if there is any problem you will see it in the oil. I don't see why they think its the clutch and starter clutch Is that the swing arm bearing going bad?

like i said before i don't know much of anything when it comes to fixing these things or what is what.... all i know is, the bearing that's where the back tire is... is hanging out you can visibly see its broken... the back brakes need to be changed, the front brakes need to be changed, the bike makes some crazy noise then shuts off.. (noise coming from gear box area), then wont turn back on for some time till (clutch) cools down so I'm told... and i need a new back tire.... and i went to 3 different places to get quotes and all said around the $700 dollar area... so i have a moped that i pay insurance on that i cant even ride because the man that sold it to me swore up and down that all it needed was a back tire and some brake work....

If it wasn't so far, I'd come and help, because most of those part are easy to replace, hopefully someone in your area that owns a scooter and does his own work could help you, I'll try to find someone.

Try posting a local ad on craigslist with the problems you have on the scooter. If your hearing a bunch of grinding or noise from where the clutch gears are chances he's right. I would drain the gear oil for the he'll of it to see if you see metal shards.
That final price of 700 for a new rear baring and clutch work who knows how bad does not sound like a too bad price to fix.
