Thank you! It will be handy to have, especially when I first replace the variator or anytime I'm riding on a belt that is entering its final part of its life. When you get something cheap like this, you just hope it will serve you the 20 or 30 times you may need it. Or at least that's what I'm hoping for.

Just be mindfull that the impact wrench only really helps with getting it off. To do the job right you need a torque wrench and holder to put everything back together. If you do not hold the clutch bell and variator still you can also scuff up the crank pin and gears case so be sure to practice good technique when removing things with an impact wrench so you do not have collateral damages.

First report; interesting and effective. I don't have a torque wrench like I should. This thing isn't exactly an impact wrench. The way it works is it spins up inside (w/o moving on the outside) then "hits" hard for a spin, then revs again (again, the socket stops moving) then it "hits" again. It's more like a hammering socket. I let it hit about five times for my variator. Is that enough? Dunno, but we'll find out. Takes it on and off with ease, plugged into my friggin scooter. Not half bad, so far.

I bought an emergency impact at Wallyworld and it performs the same way as yours does. With mine, I usually hit it about 5 times, but I'm sure ours are different. I've never used a torque wrench on either pully...yet. Maybe one day I'll buy or use some sort of holder.

cool how much at wally world? This one is 40. comes with four sockets, nice where it's two per cylinder, including one close enough to variator size to fit w/o stripping. got 12v cig plugin and 12v optional battery clamp on. I like it.

Mine just has the cigarette lighter adapter. It was $25-30. The adapter is cheap on mine--- smacked it around a few times and fell apart. I put it back together. It came with a few sockets, but they didn't fit my variator nut. I went and bought some sockets at the store.
Overall it gets the job done and I haven't stripped either of the shafts threads. It's not my top priority to get a better one yet, but if it takes a dump then I might.

That's a nice one too, Hank, and has about 50 more ft.lbs. power for $10 more. Luckily these variator and clutch nuts never need more than 60ft/lbs (mine is 185, yours is 230 i believe). In fact, I think I probably over-did mine. I need to order a few of those nuts for backup.

Yeah the Chicago Electric impact wrench from harbor Freight does the job well.
They have sales on it a lot and prices range from 40-60 bucks.
You can hold in one hand and tighten OR reverse with just your finger squeeze in the same hand.
It is a little workout to hold for extended periods but I like that, it feels sturdy like its going to last for being so cheap.
