Hello guys,
i have a 50cc 2 stroke 1PE40-QMB Scooter and my friend bought it from me in september, somehow in december he managed to snap the bike in two ( front end fell off ) and he broke his leg so it was left outside for 3 months with no front body pannel and the bike was uncovered. i have the task of restorig the bike to be used again but when i turn the ignition the dash and indecators work etc but when i press the starter button ( with the brake pressed ) the starter motor isnt cranking the engine. but when i short the starter solinoid it does. it never has any issues like this before the bike snapped do you guys have any idea how i can diagnose or find where the fault is,

Do a resistance check across the switch (any old multi-meter will do). Switch open- >999MOhm Switch closed- 0.somethingOhm.

Even easier check if the brake light turns on when the key is on and you pull the lever. If its working the brake light will turn on

Is the brake light circuit and starting circuit not on separate switches inside the one box (ie. multi pole switch)?
Failing that, check the resistance of your connections and wiring.

Also check make sure all your wires are connected from the controls, from the switch to the connect is about 12in away inside the handle bar cover

Start at the solenoid and apply power to the small wire does it turn over. If so work your way forward from there if not solenoid is bad...

unplug the solinoid plug , one should be fixed ground , the other should show 12vdc when holding the brake and pressing the starter button .
maybe a kickstand/center switch ?

Tape the brake handle so the brake lights come on then test the YELLOW and GREEN wire at the SOLENOID for voltage. If Juice is getting to the Solenoid NOW touch the SOLENOID TERMINAL with the black wire with something TO THE FRAME. If it spins the starter the SOLENOID is good and you have a bad GROUND coming off the PUSH START Button. If it does NOT spin the Starter you have a bad Solenoid.
