So out of all the CDI's out there which have you used and what where your results? There's the standard cheapo Blue one that says NEW Racing CDI on it The "standard" orange performance CDI Casoli Moto (They have a blue red and an amber colored one) Power Rev (Purple) Progress Racing (Blue) Posh Racing (Light Blue) So if you have an aftermarket CDI let us know which one it is and what your results where. Weather it improved performance a lot, a little, not noticeable, or even if it made it worse. Attachments:

I have the standard orange cdi from scrappydog. I could tell a huge difference, but I think it was due to a bad stock cdi.
Acceleration has increased exponentially, top speed is about 5mph higher, and it definitely gets higher in the rpms.

I replaced my stock CDI the first season, when it went bad. I replaced it with the red "New Racing" one off eBay, which made a noticeable improvement over the stock unit. I soon replaced the coil with an orange Bando Japanese coil, and combined with the red CDI the engine ran even better. I also added an iridium plug and it ran better yet. Not much top-speed increase, but faster starting and acceleration, and stronger idle. I had to slow the idle down a little when I added the iridium plug.
The red CDI lasted fine for 4 years, until I ruined it with the infamous spray-wash wand, and had to push "Lil' Bubba" home. As Dr. Phil says: "I hate it when that happens"... LOL!
This year, I replaced it with the blue one identical to the one in your picture. It's running fine, about the same as the old red one did. I have heard complaints about these blue ones not holding up, but I'll bet that phenomenon is more from water than from defects... These cheapies usually work well, but they are DEFINITELY NOT waterproof.
The generic, stock "rev-limited" CDI's seem to be pretty poor quality, and don't let the engine run anywhere near its potential. Four full seasons on my original red one is pretty good longevity for any cheap Chinese electronic part, and even then, it was the water, not age that did it in.
Please note: The most dramatic performance increase I've obtained came from installing a Prodigy variator. With 12-gram rollers, stock clutch and belt, I got a 3-5 mph top-speed increase, snappier acceleration and MUCH lower rpm cruising at any speed. When accelerating, it seems to keep the engine mostly in its 6,500 to 8,500 "sweet-spot" but the stock variator had the engine running up to 9,500+ rpm (I do have an accurate tach). I believe that all the carb, CDI, Coil, plug and exhaust tweaking REALLY comes alive when combined with a better variator.
I'll bet that when you get that slick 150 "50-Plus" dialed in, it's gonna HONK!
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Leo in Texas
