I have recently changed my CDI unit because I was told that was the problem. As I was riding it on my first trip a mile away from my house the scooter stalled/turned off on its own. It happens every time I ride it for a few months now. So I decided to change the CDI two days ago hoping that was the problem . So as I drove it again today the scooter stalled/turned off on its own. I tried to kick start it since I have no battery power and I started once but immidiatly turned off. I tried to turn it on again several times and nothing. I'm unsure what the problem is and I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

When it won't start, you need to see if it's getting spark. If it is, then you probably have a fuel problem. Maybe the fuel pump is weak, or has a loose vacuum line. Maybe the carb float level is too low. Or it could be in desperate need of a valve adjustment and when the engine warms up and expands the already too tight valves get tighter. Or if there is no spark maybe the spark plug is crapping out, or perhaps the ignition coil overheats. There are lots of potential things it could be, but hopefully this post will give you a place to start

I wonder if it could have anything to do with overheating shutdown?
Or otherwise, perhaps a blocked fuel line, (clogged filter, semi-closed fuel valve)?

If it was overheating and soft seizing you wouldn't be able to kick it over or restart it until it cooled down for a little while.

I'm not familiar with the Riva. However, if it has a 4 stroke engine I would be checking the valve adjustment.

Sometimes when a bad coil heats up they will have a cracked wire open up and kill the motor.

[replyingto=gitsum]gitsum[/replyingto]that's exactly what happened, until I put in a new CDI because thats what my mechanic told me could be the problem. So i changed it and it soft seized a few times, 5 at most and then just completely shut up and wont turn back on at all. When i kick start it the lights still come on at least the one from the front.
