I un-winterized my 50cc Tao Tao scooter about a month ago, and it took a long time to start but eventually I got it running.
Fast forward about a month later (this week) I was out riding it and it felt like it was going to die when I stopped at stop signs or intersection. When I made it home it died the minute I let off the accelerator.
The next day (yesterday) I changed the oil, and had problems starting it. So today I bought a new spark plug (NGK 4629/C7HSA) and put it in and still had problems starting it.
Eventually I got it started but it died on me when I went to turn around on our street.
I'm guessing it's a dirty carburetor, but I've never messed with the carb on the bike, so any info would be great.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

did you drain the old gas? It could be the carb plugging up, or it needs a valve adjustment... is it a four stroke?

So its not wanting to idle after warm? Maybe there is a vacuum leak somewhere, check all vacuum lines.
I recently had the issue of once warm it would die at any stop, turned out to be a vacuum line from the intake to the petcock was broken

Run a crapload of Seafoam thru it, that should clean out the guts of the carb.

+1 for a good helping of seafoam, I dont drain gas on any of my machines, just stabil before storage then seafoam in spring.

The more I'm thinking about it, it's acting like valve adjustment. When was the last time you ran the valves on it?

I put stabil in it in the fall, and still had problems getting it started in the spring. I have also put SeaFoam in the gas tank, and tried it again the other day.
I've never done anything to the valves, I just got it back in June 2012.
I'm going to look into getting a valve adjustment.

Yes, not wanting to idle some times but others it is fine. I had the exact same issue... the broken line was bouncing around and sealed some times.
Anyways, hope you can find the cause

I just wanted to update this thread, while I was taking the scooter apart to adjust the valves I noticed a vacuum hose was broken. I replaced the hose and it starts and runs just fine.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
