If you have this it is a PAIR System: PAIR:Pulsed Air Injection ReburnThe Pair system is a one way VALVE, what it does is SUCK IN FRESH AIR that is all it does. If you notice the hose coming off the Pair Valve goes to a canister that has a Vacuum hose coming from usually a "T" or "Y" or right to a connector on the Right Side of the Intake Manifold and one hose from the CANISTER just hanging down loose(that is where it sucks in fresh air). If you have this it is a EGR System: EGR:Exhaust Gas RecirculationThe EGR system is a one way VALVE, the Valve is welded onto the exhaust pipe and what it does is it send unburned exhaust gases back to be re-burned. Here again the hose from the EGR goes to a canister just like the PAIR system, has a Vacuum hose and a HOSE from the Canister going to your AIR INTAKE side of the CARB. If something goes south on this it will MELT the Canister. If you have a Canister like this you have a EVAP System: EVAP:Evaporative Emission (EVAP) PurgeThe EVAP system is a VENT for the Gas Tank, the vent hose from the Tank goes to a Canister which also has a Vacuum line and a hose from the Canister back to the air box or tubing so the gas fumes go back into the intake again to be re-burned. What can happen with the EVAP is actual gas gets into the hose going to the canister and clog the charcoal in it and that will stop the venting of the gas tank. If that happens once the gas tank builds enough pressure it will not allow fuel to flow to out of the gas tank. All the above can cause lack of Vacuum to your fuel pump and or petcock if something goes south to cause the vacuum applied to the canisters to be open. Alleyoop
