Can't get more macho than a heavy weight fighter. Muhammed Ali brought more viewers to the sport. You could say that, along with Howard Cosell, he revolutionized the way the media covers sports. I think this is a decision for people that follow boxing more closely than I.

I don't follow boxing. But as far as I know, there's only one person who's been named The Greatest. Period.
Plus George Foreman never lit an Olympic cauldron.
(and boy, how I miss Wide World of Sports. I got to see so much more than the usual sports--barrel racing, ice barrel jumping, Evel Knievel, Harlem Globetrotters. There's nothing like it on tv now, and that really is a loss.)

It was great to watch the Ali fights on Wide World of Sports. The big bouts are all pay per view now.

It had to be Ali, the fight he fought till the end of his life, was tougher then any battle in the ring.

It had to be Ali, the fight he fought till the end of his life, was tougher then any battle in the ring. Very good point. And Ali never lost his sense of fun, either. I saw a clip where Ed Bradley of 60 Minutes was interviewing Ali and Mrs Ali at a restaurant. And Ali dozed off. His wife explained this happened periodically. Then Ali started twitching, then punching the air. Mrs Ali told Ed that her husband would relive his fights, and to watch out because sometimes his jabs landed. And right then Ali lunged and grabbed Ed Bradley and I think scared the parc outta him. And just busted out laughing, along with his wife. They were screwing with him. Which Ed took in good humor and joined the laughing once he got over the scare.

Personally, I am more in-tune with George, but this is a "most macho" pole. Macho definitely includes an over-the-top arrogance, and self-centered, self-confidence as in obnoxious bragging with the ability to actually back it up. Considering both boxers in that light, Ali definitely has the edge in spades. I was a fan but really liked his persona and attitude much better when he was Cassius Clay. If these two super boxers could have been in the same age group and competitors, it would have been the fight of the century between them! BOTH guys could put the pucker on most other fighters...

Leo, Ali and George did fight, Ali was a little past his prime but George was still in his prime, Ali knocked him out in the eighth round.

Leo, Ali and George did fight, Ali was a little past his prime but George was still in his prime, Ali knocked him out in the eighth round. Wasn't it somewhere in Africa, like in Zaire or one of the Z-countries? Something about they couldn't afford anywhere in the US? Or couldn't get all the rights settled? Not that I watched it, still don't watch boxing. I just remember reading about it a bit ago. I don't even remember now what the book was. If it was a sports book then I wouldn't have been reading it. Maybe in Fred Broski's bio? He was a local weatherman, but filled in with sports and commercials, and is just the nicest fellow you can ever know.
