Hogs in Texas,Gators in Florida, Snapping Turtles in Louisiana, Kangaroo in western Australia, Moose in Maine, Canada or Alaska. etc. For me back in that day were Dairy cows that got lose at night,Had some local boys hit that 1,250lb+ lb beast and it was over, headlights weren't what they are today and seeing out front far enough to not hit a cow or deere in the country at posted speeds became a butt pucker ride home. Next were the land Crabs at night in the Tropics on a rented Honda Elite scooter, id call them clickers as the clicked skidding across the road at night, they are big with that one Big Claw, the Moon provide more light than that headlight in the Tropics, was a big smooch hitting them darn near slipping on a banana.
The Deere are so thick here in my area of NC, I just won't ride the CBR from town a few miles away after dark, and ride like a woosey boy on the scoot home. just older and wiser don't care bout diyin, just don't want to be in a wheelchair.

Haven't done much night driving on my scoot. So I can't say for that. I did have a deer dart across the road in front of my car once. I had just enough time to recognize it was a deer (antlers gave it away) before it was already gone. Got home and told Mom and my bro. While she expressed due maternal concern, my brother asked, "How many points did it have?" >'Kat

Wild hogs. They get very big here, feeding in the rice fields. When the farmers do their seasonal burning of the fields, we get even more hogs crossing the roads. I don't see many deer unless I go to the hill country.

The only critter I have actually hit on my scooter was a little bunny rabbit, right in my neighborhood, in the pre-morning darkness. I felt so guilty.

Rain... I don't much care to ride at night because of critters (but still do sometimes... warm nights; it's like riding through silk) But rain makes it even more perilous. Coming back home from camping in NY and the rain came fast, hard and heavy... Nearly blinding and I got soaked cold to the bones. Like I had said once before... I might have stayed drier by jumping into the lake just to get out of the rain. It was that bad.. Made me nervous because I could only see tail lights ahead of me twinkling through the downpour. Even worse, I was on the expressway at the time; which can make matters even more dangerous. I got off at the first opportunity and spent the night trying to dry out in a too expensive hotel room. (but it would have been nice if I planned on staying more than just that night)
Heavy rain while riding at night... I hate it when that happens.

Like Chewe says, kamikaze bikers without lights is a thing here, since I live up the mountains it gets foggy at nights frequently, that's not a problem for those idiots riding without lights, they keep doing it.
Landslides on rainy season, and semi trucks without escort are other issues, the roads near my house are steep hills and sharp twistys on narrow roads, it is an alternate route for truckers when the main road is closed, it is not funny riding at night on a tight twisty with your bike fully leaned, and getting in front of a semi truck using both lanes!!.

I would be more worried about those big venomous snakes in Costa Rica, Ricardo. Even if I'm riding a scooter. (I posted this in the wrong thread a few minutes ago. Its been a long Monday for me).

For me...MAJOR FREAK-OUTS: "Invisible" curbs left over from abandoned left-turn only lanes... TEXTING drivers. DRUNK drivers. BRAIN-DEAD drivers. ILLEGAL-ALIEN drivers who can't drive their stolen cars, OR read traffic signs. SECONDARY FREAK-OUTS: Animals... All types. Pot-holes... All sizes Road-debris... Mufflers, hubcaps, drive-shafts, tires, etc.... Pea-gravel/oil-slicks & wet leaves.. Bullets, buckshot and beer-cans...….

Unpainted median curbs at intersestions. Abso-freakin'-lootley! Those pesky booby-traps are the main reason I installed super-bright LED driving lights on "Minnie Mouse". (You can see them on my avatar). Just blocks from my place, there is one of those curbs left over from a past turn-lane that's doggoned-near invisible even in daylight. A leftover from what WAS a major surface street, now, a strip of road seldom used. Going straight ahead through the intersection, my neighbor hit it one night in his new Jeep, and tore out the entire front drive/suspension, oil-pan, tranny and finally rolled the Jeep onto its roof, TOTALLED it completely. He was just going straight through, and had just started up from a red-light, so he was not speeding... Probably less than 20-mph. The next day, I nearly did the same on my SCOOTER, even knowing about it.You just do NOT expect a 10" curb ACROSS THE INSIDE STRAIGHT-AHEAD LANE. That miserable obstruction now has SO much car paint and white gouges and chips that you can almost see it if you're looking for it... I guess I'll repost the how-to on the lights... They've saved my bacon more than once in two years! And, even though they light the road for over 300 yards, I kept them low, and have not had even one vehicle flash their lights at me, so they don't blind oncoming cars. They are an inexpensive and HIGHLY-EFFECTIVE safety upgrade. Ride safe!Leo

A motorcyclist had a fatal crash last night in Houston (no helmet) when he hit an unpainted curb on a freeway entrance ramp. I wish the TX DOT would spend a little money on reflective paint for curbs.

I do not have an issue with ninja curbs. my routes are well memorized down to the crack and chip.
but is there any reason you can't paint the curb yourself ? I may or may not have sneak patched a pothole or two nearby my house just because it makes my ride better.
