Now in the State of Missouri, a 50cc scooter by law only requires a regular car operating license to operate. It does not require registering or getting insurance on, because it is considered a motorized bicycle. The insurance company will not write up a policy for only a 50cc scooter. So how does someone get insurance on a 50cc scooter in case of theft or storm damage? Or what if you hit a pedestrian or your scooter falls over and does damage to a new car? See, if I owned a new car and someone's scooter placed a scratch in it, well I would want them to pay for damages. That is only right. Well Missouri Statute 307.180.2 defines a moped/ motorized bicycle and claims this is for homeowners or renters insurance. So in Missouri, I have a renters insurance policy, which will cover my 50cc scooter if stolen, fire, storm damage. And cover others if I have a mishap. It makes me rest easier, knowing if someone stole it, that it is covered.
I have a 250 scooter too. It is legally a motorcycle to Missouri. So need a motorcycle license, registration, and insurance. Again, the full coverage insurance pays to have it. About 4 years ago, my 250 scooter blew over in a wind storm. Done about $600 in damage. After my deductible, I ordered new parts and fixed scooter up, with the insurance check.
Well, anyhow you will have to see what insurance policy will cover your scooter, in your own State. Laws are different in other States.
