Most of my forum friends know that back on February 20th I was banned from this forum. Things "are what they are" and I have no hard feelings. JR kindly called me personally to learn why a founding member with 2660 posts, 446 likes and 50 bones would be banned. He "un-banned" me and I was reminded that we old-timers DO owe it to newer riders to be available on the forums, to share our experiences. A shared vintage adventure can bring a smile, and safety lesson learned long ago could keep a new rider from serious harm, keeping him or her safely involved in the world of two wheels.During my absence, my Wife suggested I attempt to locate some of my riding pals from days gone by. Only one could be found, obituaries being more fruitful than FaceBook. I am the last of my "posse" still ambulatory and riding... The list included such pals as Bobber Bob, Big Tiny, Lil' Moose, the Brain, Crazy and finally precious little Janice the Flyin' Squirrel...Now, forty years after the fact, I learned that as I had heard, she went to the West Coast to pursue a career in motorcycle stunt-riding for the cinema. When a stuntman is lost, it isn't big news unless he or she is a legend like Paul Mantz who died while making the film "Flight of the Phoenix"... Getting yourself killed making a movie and publicizing it is bad for the industry. Sadly, she pushed the envelope too far, and was lost while performing a motorcycle stunt, somewhere in the late 1970's or early 1980's... Word-of-mouth from the stunt fraternity related a tiny, fearless lady stunt rider known simply as "The Squirrel" was killed around that time. That had to be Janice. Like myself, she was a graphic artist and knowing her as I did, she would be glad to see a happy farewell from me, so... That's what I created to her memory. None of the members here knew her except from my stories of her drag-racing exploits, but trust me, you would have been blessed to have known her. She would have been 75 this year... One of my fondest memories is her 10.68 second run on "Old Blue". THAT was the fastest and quickest quarter-mile ever turned in by a street-driven and licensed bike as of that date, at that strip. Side bets netted us a LOT of money which we shared. I felt it appropriate to include that time slip in her memorial. Funny how that yellowed, tattered piece of paper means more to me today than a thousand-dollar bill. Her personal bike was a 1950's Harley Davidson KR flathead. She added Sportster wheels (to have BRAKES...) and rudimentary lighting to get it street-legal. Lean, bare-bones, bobbed and red-hot, it WAS literally a steel incarnation of her own essence. Her mantra was "Live fast, die young". She meant it, and she lived it. She was a good Christian and I'm sure she and Doug have met and are riding those streets of gold together... Doug on a Cushman, and Jan most likely on a resurrected "Old Blue" with her chrome turned to gold. And I imagine the Good Lord replaced Old Blue's ape-hangers with drag-bars, so the little squirrel can finally reach the throttle and clutch without standing tippy-toed on the pegs... LOL! Look closely at that Oswego time slip, and you'll see the timer "A.U." wrote her perfect epitaph in just two words: "GO GIRL!". So, my advice to one and all is to enjoy your good friends, good times, forget the bad times and remember that you'll be as old as the Missus and me before you know it. Honor your friends in life, and their memories when they pass on. Ride safe,Leo (reminiscing on a load of memories) in Texas

Hey Leo, I'm sorry you didn't find any of your old pals to share cold ones while remembering.
I think the Squirrel would've scared me with her being so wild. But she sounds like she was quite a gal!

Hey Leo, I'm sorry you didn't find any of your old pals to share cold ones while remembering. I think the Squirrel would've scared me with her being so wild. But she sounds like she was quite a gal! >'Kat Kat, Jan scared ME and I was pretty wild... At 4' 6" and 78 pounds, she was mighty small (could have been a "Minnie Me" for Vanna White) but she had that "warrior gene" to the max. Absolutely FEARLESS of ANYTHING. On the return to the pits after that monumental race, she jumped onto Old Blue's solo seat, stood straight up and kicked the throttle open with her bare foot... All 250 ponies loose in first gear on dirt... She never even wobbled! Evil Knievel is the ONLY other rider I ever saw do that insanity standing on the seat... Although, I'll bet "Indian Larry" did it. May have been doing that trick when he was killed. I can still hear myself yelling "Sit yer' little butt DOWN before ya dump our ride home! Ya already won the freakin' race!" ... and put yer' clothes back on! No use. She was in her glory to a standing ovation from the peanut gallery! We met in college, both of us budding commercial artists, AND crazy, over-the-top NUTZ for bikes. As time went on, I gravitated to a career in advertising art and marketing, but she was obsessed with a career in motorcycle stunt-riding. We lost contact when she headed west, and only now did I find out what finally happened. No surprise, but sad. She went out doing what she loved, and did so well. She loved the Lord, but also loved the adrenalin rush from attempting insane things on bikes. That proved to be the "perfect storm" for a premature trip to Heaven. Not a bad way to go, when you think it over... But I did cringe every time she laughingly chirped "Live fast, die young". You CAN call things to be with your words. Now as for me and the missus, WE make a point of claiming our full 120 years... LOL! I really WAS disappointed to find only ONE old pal still living. And he is in a nursing home on oxygen. Old age comes WAY too fast once you pass 50 or so. I feel like "The Lone Ranger" being the only remaining ambulatory old geezer from my youth, still riding ANYTHING on two wheels. Riding season is nearly here...! So, enjoy the ride, and I do NOT recommend standing up on the seat of ANY bike... We are NOT Evil Knievel... LOL! Ride safe,Leo

No we really didn't notice or really care the door closed and locked after You stated your were out.. Be available to share some kind of safety to keep new riders safe? Huh? your example of safe riding is a Hard Tail Bobber with a Knobby rear tire and No Front brakes. Hows your back these days? probably why your on a Scooter instead of a real bike, your were more concerned with striking a pose than truly being smart and safe. I see you really have very little to nothing to contribute technically for someone that can throw down 250hp from a Push rod iron twin. Your credibility when out the window with the you were actually gullible enough to mount a Two Stroke expansion chamber on your GY6 and the only way you justified how it worked was your were a rear echelon Pogue with such high security clearance we should believe you. oh ok that explains why you have such a thin skin. and your service rifle I'm sure was never fired and only dropped once... Now the level of smack has gone to new heights with throwing down 250hp and waking the throttle while standing up whit a bare foot huh I just got lost. And guess what? if Ol Blue hard tail bobber with the knobby tire and no front brake was throwing down 250hp Ol Blue would be throwing down allot lower ET than a 10.whatever. utter bunk. You have no clue what it takes to throw down 250hp in a V twin with push rods or a Inline 4. Some of us do this for a living, see thats my work and logo... Comes to wonder if the only reason you posted this absurd thread was to provoke a nasty response as to get oneself banned.

Pistonguy... The voice of the god of engines... Military expert... The very inventor of the internal combustion engine... The guy without whose infallible wisdom modern-day motor racing wouldn't even exist... and yet doesn't understand the proven fact that a 4-stroke engine will perform better on a chamber-pipe than a tuned straight-pipe.
Just for the record, my Harley engine and slip-tooth tranny were professionally built by Triangle of Chicago (the 1950's/60's Midwest's premier Harley drag-engine fabricator) at a cost of $20K. For the brain-dead, THAT is $200K in today's money. It put out a good deal more than 250 hp. Of course, set up for competition ONLY, with a slick it WOULD do better. California chops often broke into the nines, but NOT usually street-legal, daily drivers... And I've posted many times that I did indeed have a front brake... You have an uncanny habit of running your mouth without paying attention to what you're insulting.
Also, for the record, when you are correct, I'll gladly agree with you. Yes, a half-million miles on a hardtail chopper DID damage my back, and that DOES have a lot to do with my riding a step-through scooter. And, the crazy things I did in the sixties are NOT safety lessons, nor are they intended to brag, or promote such shenanigans... My fifty-year-old true life adventures are posted strictly for fun for my forum friends; events from long ago that couldn't be done today, nor would I recommend attempting them... LOL! If you paid any attention to my posts, you'd already know that.
You are LONG on mouth, and SHORT on ears. You know NOTHING about me, and I suggest you speak to JR who DOES know me. If you can keep your mouth shut long enough to listen, you might learn something. If you'd take the time to review my over 2,600 posts, you'd see I have NEVER trashed ANYBODY'S thread. The ONLY negative posting I've EVER done is addressing YOUR garbage when you hijacked my own threads.
I've done my best to get along with you but it's getting old. It's obvious by the way you trash others to elevate your own ego, that you were badly abused by someone along the line. For that, I am truly sorry, but it was not me. Your toxic posts discredit the entire forum.
THAT is the reason I left, AND why I'm back. As for we older riders, we DO owe it to newcomers to coach them on safety. My posts on LED lighting, how-to with a bridge-rectifier on AC systems, valve-stems, riding techniques with unexpected dangers like corrugated steel bridges, angled railroad crossings and others have helped riders and they have blessed me with thanks for the "heads-up"... Riding season is near, and I'll probably re-post some of the better ones.
You have a great deal of knowledge you could share with inexperienced members. Sadly, you trash them for their inexperience the same way you do to me... Sad, because we could be friends here...
I'm NOT your only target, but it seems I'm your favorite.
The purpose of this thread is to honor the memories of true friends who have passed from my life in an enjoyable, anecdotal manner that my friends can appreciate.
Hijacking this thread to vent your disrespect is a new low, even for you.
Don't bother baiting me anymore. I won't participate. Just keep the disgusting insults coming, you're making a marvelous reputation for yourself.
The missus and I will pray for you... Brother, you REALLY do need it.
Leo (VERY sincerely) in Texas

"Rear Echelon Pogue"? Pardon me while I fall down laughing... If you only knew, but you never will. Your insulting ways remind me of Don Rickles, but without the humor...
Now, Pistonguy: please do tell us all in what branch of the military YOU served MY country. My Wife (Air Force) and I associate with a LOT of vets often, (truly GREAT people) and, over 40 years, we've NEVER, EVER heard a veteran insult another veteran's service. No matter if he/she was a field grade officer commanding a battle group, OR a "spoon" feeding recruits in a field kitchen.
Vets simply don't trash fellow vets.
So, what's YOUR story? You're not passing the military smell-test.
If you served, and were HONORABLY discharged, you have my respect for that. If however, you never served, and have the gall to insult us who did, your credibility is absolutely finished...
There is something very wrong about you FAR beyond your rude insults and disrespect. It IS gonna come out... Jus' sayin'

Choppersquid you must look down at scooter owners to think that all of us are gullible or just plane stupid enough to believe this nonsense. Being of the industry such a not cool deal to get on a mostly entry level world introduction to Two Wheels and throw down my real life adventure bench racing exploits and rock star adventures, I've been extremely humble here.
I will introduce you to the Brute Horsepower shootout in Daytona,This is one brain child of one Bruce Brahms a guru. lets say we've met. So watch the latest and greatest of around the country and world throw down. even up to 135i there still well below 200rwhp and ya ya I'm sure your going to tell us you had some 150-200i in stock cases. just plane smack that in the early seventies you or anyone else was thrown down in a Iron Motor 250rwhp on Gas..

Ol Blue I introduce you to Red White and Blue. The Late model Liter class Fireblade with the only mods being Ignition and a pipe throws down a Honest 157rwhp. Not my first rodeo on a 100+rwhp bike, its a different level and for one to survive one earns much respect. In current form she is actually make very nice linear power so even a slow grandpa like me can throw a leg over it. But make no mistake if you think your going to whack the throttle on her you better be in form or your taking a soil sample before you know what happened, The Bike is capable of a 9.99 qm et If you can ride it and I can't ride it anywhere near its potential , actually few can..

Nice video, I like it...
But good grief, have you NEVER paid ANY attention to my posts?
I explained many times my engine was built by Triangle, with HAND-CAST CASES... Billet stroker crank, turned billet cylinders with Chevy 409 pistons and if I recall, somewhere around 190 CID. Definitely NOT stock cases and yeah, the frame was tweaked to fit the motor.
Now, that said, you still hijack most every thread I post, to trash me. This post was personal. YOU made the trash talk personal. Now, since you insist on insulting my military history, TELL US ALL WHERE YOU SERVED.
Like I said, if you actually served, I respect that. If not, well, enough said.
As for your insults, please remember I was there. You were not. Your hijacking this thread honoring my dead friends is rude beyond belief. I never hijack YOUR threads. YOU started all this garbage.
All you have to do to avoid my confronting your insults is to stop posting them.

At 250rwhp is Modern Moto GP hp. at 250+rwhp not even Rossi can stand on the seat and whack the throttle with a bare foot. And how doing that did the squid put it into gear or work the clutch while standing on the seat and the right bare foot, snit I just got lost. Knievel nah don't think so. Poisoned my liver with Robbie and he couldn't pull that off on his CR500...

I tell ya what why don't you go over on the HD forums and see how far you get with your onubtainiuom ci custom case that that made 250+hp and know body today can duplicate that, your laughed outa there in short order. Please post up the links to your threads....
Squigly when you mention Honda Im that guy on the other side of the fence you look from that works with Superbike, Formula Extreme. Supersporst MX/SX Piston programs. HRC Europe Im the Valvtrain guy, pushing 40 pro years in the industry I got a real good handle what it take to go 200mph on two wheels or 100rwph or etc.

Pistonguy...
Do you realize we're arguing about things that took place over a half-century ago?
Honestly, I'm one of THE friendliest members on this forum. Why not just quit this endless trashing, and get along. I'm willing if you are.
Nothing good comes from constant arguing. I take you at your word about things you've accomplished, and honestly, everything I've posted has been truthful, and only for the enjoyment of my forum friends who get a kick out the stuff we did decades ago.
Life is TOO short (especially at our ages) to give each other high blood-pressure. If you're willing to stop attacking my posts, I'd be happy to be your friend here.
That is the best I can do... I'd really like to get along. We could probably enjoy sharing our experiences a lot more than trashing each other.
Sincerely,
Leo in Texas

JerryScript, skuttadawg, JoeyBee, earlwb, oldchopperguy SylvreKat cyborg w650I really don't understand why this happened on this thread? pistonguy your only purpose on this thread was to insult and demean the poster here and you asked the question of why he posted? It's obvious you didn't mean to add anything but insults so be warned while I think you really know your stuff one thing you didn't seem to learn as a child was kindness and manners and for sure politeness for a decorated veteran such as the gentleman who posted this thread. You seem to want to make a point that this man has nothing of value to say yet you can't live by your own words, what you said here had no value either and the people who raised me taught me that if you don't have nothing nice to say then don't say nothing at all. You want to say that all what this kind man says is all BS so time to learn forum rules and politeness and it's a simple rule, BS even if it is BS isn't against the rules but rudeness and being like you are doing is and it's not only towards this gentleman but to others. One comment you made to another was if he didn't even know where a sparkplug was he needed to be riding a bicycle. Let me ask you something? Was you just born one day and automatically knew everything you know now at birth? All the people you hang with that have learned so much did they know it at birth? In fact some of the old timers you know did some really stupid crap in their younger days compared to todays' standards all in the quest for knowledge. Why do people of no knowledge come to forums? Yep that's right to "LEARN". So let me make it clear you better LEARN politeness or you'll be being rude to other people elsewhere and believe me word spreads around quick of people who know what they're doing and people who are pricks and the first are welcome while the latter are not. Consider this thread locked and I apologize to the OP for this happening.
