I finally went out and put out some flowers and a ghost helmet, for William Smith today, he was the rider killed over the holiday, by a drunk driver. The paper had the wrong intersection, so I rode 20 minutes out of my way, only to double back, after I called the sheriffs department to confirm the location, it was right where I turn every day heading to work, the driver has been charged with vehicular homicide. This guy was 60 years old, trying to get his life back on track, in Turning point, he went to the mens ministry I go to, just no reason for this, no reason to EVER drive drunk, he didn't even get a funeral, because they can't contact his family, somebody needs to remember him imgur.com/a/ySS6P

We'll remember him. Have a most sincere bone on the OCG.Seems nearly every time I ride, I have a close call with someone who's obviously drunk... OR texting... OR both. Makes it almost enjoyable to deal with a sober jerk trying to hit me on-purpose! It's easier to predict THOSE drivers than the ones who left their brains at the bar...Now, many states are adding "legal" marijuana to the lethal mix. I'd think there are enough ways to get folks killed without legalizing things that send inhibitions off to LaLa Land... and, with no legal benchmark to even prove impairment. Driving/riding when I was a kid was probably less than HALF as dangerous as it is today. Yet I still saw several of my riding pals injured and killed by poor driving by those who hit them, without them being drunk or impaired. Nowadays, we have to deal with terminally brain-dead alcohol and drug users. Even at 71 and not nearly as agile as when I was young, it's not bad enough to make me stop riding... At least not quite yet. If Texas legalizes recreational pot, THAT may be the final straw... Ride safe, watch your six and remember it's a meat-grinder out there, and WE are the sausage... Leo (trying hard to grow eyes in the back of my gray-haired head) in Texas

Whether it's booze or weed, impaired is impaired.

I SEE a lot of ghost bicycles (painted all white and chained to a pole) as memorials for unfortunate cyclists. I have probably seen only 2 motorcycle memorials in the past decade. Placing the memorial for the late Mr Smith was a noble and thoughtful deed.

I'm fairly new to riding scooters, I just went over a year in January. And me and my wife saw a white bike on the edge of someone's property and didn't exactly know what it was. I lost a friend and his wife several years ago to a speeding driver, in a motorcycle accident, where she was a passenger. I'm very leery of my wife riding with me but I'm not the type who lets fear get the best of me. Well done for taking the time and effort to properly memorialize your friend.
