the magnetic tab is either glued on vacuum welded or zinc chromated into place
welding temp will destroy magnetism and a magnetic feald will interfere with some forms of welding

it was probably welded on before the magnets were installed inside of the flywheel

they glue the magnets to keep them from shifting, then the inner cover goes on and gets riveted in place.

is it running??
73vac cranking no load is good so is 40 loaded.
I suspect it might be your coil, not real sure here. I have come across this type problem in the past I would like to see what you come up with. I have also used a dci to rule out stator charge coil.

40 cranking is below spec, my original stator had this issue and once I swapped it, it was fine, anything below 50 cranking with a good battery and normal cranking speed is suspect

I'll get another cheap coil and I'm using a yahmaha Bruno coil which is a low impedence cdi type coil and better then oem

Lost no spec for oem or standard either. That stator you got from Amazon? What does the vendor say?

John I'm sending it back, I have a spare, 40 volts in circuit is pretty low for a cranking voltage, this stator has maybe 10 miles on it, and the charge coil shows signs of having been hot, the wrapping has changed color significantly, I could see that if it had been in service for a while, but not ten miles.

I have seen them run 30vac cranking and 70 at idle. However you have it in front of you.

it's been raining all day so I didn't have time to change the connectors over, I run weatherpacks, but I'll get out there tomorrow and see what it does, it's interesting the pickup coil generated .6 volts cranking which is good, the new pickup coil generates 2.1 volts which is the highest I've seen one.
