Does anybody know of a performance cdi that actually does anything besides remove the rev limiter?
I have been looking into possibly getting an NCY one.
does anyone know if they make quality parts

Some have advanced timing . Many report no or little improvement from buying a CDI as many are not rev limited

There's really little a CDI does, but time the spark, and regulate the intensity of the spark. If your spark gap is large (due to wear of the spark plug pins), sometimes the engine may skip a beat. In such cases a more powerful CDI could send a higher voltage to the spark plug, to cover up for the bogging; however, it is much easier to gap, or change a spark plug. With a lower gap, the CDI does not need to release as much energy, and more can go to the headlights, and battery charging.
Aside from that, the CDI just times the spark. Depending from scoot to scoot, it is good to have a CDI that times correctly. Some CDI's tend to time fine on idle, but time too early on WOT riding, causing the engine to ping or overheat. Some CDI's are adjustable, causing good performance on WOT, but lousy idle. I found that TaoTao does a good job on their CDI's. No matter which CDI I plugged in, orange or blue, they both performed lower than the stock CDI.
And of course rev limiting is one of the CDI's functions.

NCY Has the best CDI in my opinion! I have it on my scooter and love it. It does advance the timing. My scooter has also a advance timing woodruff key and when i installed the CDI it advance the timing way to far so i got rid of the key and kept the CDI.

I sell a proformance cdi that I checked with a timing light . it is returded for start up and idle , then advances over 3000 rpm . They work well hard starting engines with BBK's and other proformance engine upgrades .

Here is one I'll bet nobody has tried or seen.. A bit more pricey than the "New Racing" blue ones they sell on Ebay and all over the web. Tried them on many scoots....they don't work. No rev limit of course...but even newer stock black box CDI's no longer have that. The orange stock looking ones have no advance....read close to most web site ads for them..it even says so. The blue "New Racing" CDI's do have advance..but it states they are linear..so what ever advance you get at idle...is ALL you get. So I bought this one in GY6 50 and for my Minarelli 2T. Make a mark on the flywheel and use an inductive timing light...you can see a steady advance curve and I noticed quite a bit more pep!! ;D Where as the orange and "New Racing" ones..I felt nothing. Check this one out and try it...I will never buy another brand again.. www.chinesepartswholesale.com/product_info.php?products_id=67098

I've replaced dam near everything but the variator on mine with no top end increase. Got a low-end kick out of lighter sliders. I need to tune weights but I doubt it'll give me much. Wish I would have gotten a 2 stroke.

I have the blue finned CDI on my 2T and it did takeoff faster but had the same top end when a 49cc but screams to 10,500 RPMs with a BBK

Indy , the differences in cdi's might be great , but the overal power or proformance is really nominal . Remember its like an 8hp engine . A cdi is not going to make it feel like a 100hp engine you will only get but so much from the engine . And I have the cdi Carasdad is talking about , that cdi mixed in with about 10 others I checked them all . The difference between them is the timing some are fixed , some are fixed advanced some with more advance than others . I push the cdi's that impressed me .
