Scooter runs good but the spark is very weak can barely see it. Do I need a new coil or spark plug?

I have always had to open the throttle when cracking it to get it to start. Could a bad coil cause this but still make it run good down the road?

Then it sounds like your carb needs attention. Try adjusting the Fuel Ratio Mixture on the carb. First is the fuel ratio screw NOT PLUGGED UP is it available so you can adjust it? Alleyoop

Its adjusted to where it runs perfectly. It runs like a dream I can go 58 on flat ground. You just have to crack the throttle when cranking. So I took my plug out and checked it and saw the spark was very dim. The plug was chalky like I am a little lean but I am running a 110 main with everything else stock.

Sure it runs perfectly like you say I am trying to fix your starting problem. Just because it runs perfectly and runs good at top end does not mean it is adjusted right for starting and mid-range. Alleyoop

Ya i know I have been wanting to try a performance coil and cone air filter do you think I will be fine with the 110 jet. What is it you want? Now your changing from the initial complaint? Fix one thing at a time and move on to whatever else. Answer the questions asked if you can. How do you expect someone to try and help if you ignore questions. Don't forget we are not their to see your scoot and what you have on it and or hear it running. So we have to go by what you tell us and to pinpoint a problem you have to try and give as much detail as possible. Alleyoop

I will say this , any proformance or starting trouble the first thing I do is check/adjust the valves , then check the plug . Warm the engine up and adjust the air fuel mix then adjust the idle speed . Then go for a ride see how it starts and runs .
You can do as you wish .

what are the valve gaps ? John Stock gap is 0.025" don't go lower than 0.010", or it'll skip beats. I set mine up to 0.011-0.012", which is a LOT better for my 50cc. My EVO150 is less sensitive to the gap changes, but I still gapped it to 0.015" Edit: DUH! I was talking about spark plug gaps, instead of valve gaps... Sorry for that. Anyway, you got the info too.
