I have a major oil leak, I'm thinking it's the seal or whatever behind the flywheel. The oil leaks at a high rate when the engine is on from the flywheel area, haven't removed the flywheel to check behind it yet but I can clearly see a stream of oil when the engine is on coming from behind the flywheel, but it stops leaking when the engine is off...
I can't seem to find a guide or instructions to replace the seal behind the flywheel, there is a seal right? I remember a couple months ago when I had it open to replace the oil pump there was a brown plastic thing that looked sort of like a seal. Is that the seal? Can I take one of those off an identical engine to use for a while until I get a new one?

No, you can't Lain! That would be silly, the VERY low cost of seals and the significant amount of work making it crazy to use a used seal.

You will need a gasket to the crankcase cover also.  |

Can't, you just pull the seal without removing the side case cover ? Same as on the variator side .
You would just remove the fan, flywheel , and stator , and you will be able to get to the seal , at least on a 150cc

See this is the issue I'm having, there doesnt seem to be any guide on doing it on a 50cc gy6. There is no starter clutch in the 50cc. The seal is different, on the 50cc it seems to be a plastic seal not rubber. I can find guide on how to replace the seal on the other side all day long but finding one for the flywheel side for a 50cc is like really annoying I can't find any...

Yeah, had the same problem. Didn't want to pull the jug (new rings, yet another break-in period) so I JB Welded where the jug meets the crankcase. If ever have to remove things of course will have to Dremel thru the JB Weld, but that's OK. Oil leak stopped.
ps: I thought by now you would have pulled that 49cc rubber band contraption and put in a real motor.

I actually have a few motors from bikes and a 150cc motor, the only thing stopping me is I don't want to weld. But anyways I love this scooter, it's my fave. I want to keep it running forever. I have JB Weld, but I am unsure that would help in this case. It seems when running the oil is coming out of the corner where the oil is supposed to travel up to the valves. Maybe the gasket has blown to in front of the passageway and this is why it seems to flow out when running but stops when the engine stops. I had put gasket sealant on the gasket last time too and it had the same outcome and without... It seem the crankcase is building pressure and pushing the gasket out. The vent on the valve cover doesn't seem to help with the pressure I guess. I know the rings were installed properly and everything... There is no blowby, but the crankcase seems to build pressure. What can I do? I will be getting new gaskets, new rings and will hone the cylinder again, but how do I prevent this from happening once again??? |

It's possible either your case or cylinder needs to be milled flat. Do not use anything but a dry base gasket, using any sealant you risk covering an oil path when tightening down which could lead to forced seepage.

Like the case and jug aren't flat enough? I can check when I tear down further, but if the problem is pressure could I solve it by drilling a hole above the crankshaft behind where the jug slides in and install some sort of nipple valve thing to attach a hose to so I can install a one way valve or something? |

That may work, but I wouldn't recommend it, it would be treating the symptoms instead of finding the cause. The pressure I'm referring to is oil pressure, there's not much in a gy6, but if one of the passages is clogged, it could build up. In 30 years of wrenching, I have never used any type of gasket sealant, and I've never had a gasket I installed leak (knocking on wood here).
