Got a new clutch cable in and adjusted, tightened the shift cables, and found the leak. the good news is the scooter runs great now. The bad news is i destroyed my speedo cable/puck trying to get the cover back on. The other bad news is ALL the rubbers are cracked, and it leaks engine oil in 2 different places (oil sight, and engine) and gear oil out the boot for the hall sensor.
In short I should've bought a new tao tao. Those things are infinitely easier to work on, and the parts are much cheaper as well.

UPDATE: I went out and started poking around to see what I could find and the shift cables are indeed very loose. Problem being I couldn't find anywhere to adjust them. I can't see anything exposed near the back wheel which makes me think I have to start pulling chunks of motor off to get to it. The clutch may have been loose, but the lever end-piece popped off immediately after this (thankfully while I was in neutral and not very far away.) So now I need to: 1) terminate the clutch cable again, and readjust it 2) find the shift adjust points and tighten them 3) wash the outside so I can tell where the oil leak is

So I've put over 1,000 miles on my Stella these past few months. She definitely grows on you Unfortunately, it's about time that something went wrong, and I'm hoping it's just a cable that needs tightened. When shifting the numbers mean nothing anymore. basically if I move the grip all the way forward it moves up a gear, and all the way back moves down a gear (or vice versa I'm not sure lol) Basically the shifter is really loose. And the other day I had trouble getting into 1st. It doesn't want to go into 1st until it's stopped, almost like the clutch is partially engaged, or the synchro's worn out, or SOMETHING... Obviously it's not fully engaged because I can still stop and take off just fine. It also gives a very loud clunk when shifting from a stop, and seems to engine brake just a little when i shift while moving (but it shifts smooth, at least when I could shift it at all...) So I'm kinda wondering if anyone here who's familiar with a 2T shifter can point me in the right direction for getting this fixed? I haven't been able to find a repair manual or anything on the transmission. The engine/tranny area is missing a chunk of the plastic shield and it's absolutely soaked in oil, so I'm thinking something else might be causing this. I can post a pic if it'll help. It leaks a few drops of 2T oil, but I never thought anything of it since it's a very small amount. Could it be possible my tranny fluid (does it even have tranny fluid???) is leaking? The bike is still rideable, but I'm thinking I might wanna keep it parked until I get this fixed to avoid shattering my gearbox or something.

Not really sure if this is the right forum, if not i'm sorry.
What do you consider the ideal commuting arrangement? Main reason for asking this is that I haven't seen anything about it on the internet. While all of these vehicles/modes have their merits, it's unlikely that a single person can/will own all of them, so what do you guys use? My personal views as follows:
Bicycle: cheap(est?), healthy, slow, inconvenient (sweaty, hills, etc) Ebike: like a moped, but slower and less range scooter: cheap, fast enough for city traffic, usually storage motorcycle: cheap by displacement, very fast, usually no storage car: expensive, all-terrain (snow, rain, hail, dirt), loads of storage public transit: cheap, no commitment, slow walk: (do I really need to say anything?)
and anything else I haven't mentioned like a personal aircraft, teleporter or gundam.

I've done a little bit of riding, again below 40MPH, I figured going on a perfectly straight highway at WOT around 50-60MPH isn't the way to learn how the bike handles. I went in a parking lot and found the "leaning limit" (Or rather that point where the centerstand scrapes). Given that it's a scooter with wide cowls and such it isn't exactly a knee-dragger, which is fine by me. As far as braking goes I've only locked up the rear wheel once. and I was stomping on that brake pedal. If anything the brakes on the stella are squishy. By far the hardest part for me is starting out. I'm still getting used to the manual transmission and I either stall the engine, or bring the front wheel off the ground. Also as it turns out, these things are fine for getting groceries, just don't be an idiot like me and buy a case of soda. I did make it home with the case, but it fell off twice when starting.

[replyingto=ltdhpp]ltdhpp[/replyingto]I put around 20-30 miles on the bike in a parking lot doing hard stops, low speed turning and shifting. I came from a 50cc auto-scooter so just about everything was new to me, including the ability to go faster than I'm comfortable going without gear. I'm currently wearing street clothes with a helmet. which this time of year means a t-shirt and jeans... I have some padded gloves (not full finger), and I'm thinking about getting a mesh jacket. I just don't want to spend 10 minutes gearing up to go the grocery store 3 miles away...

Wow, it would seem you guys know your stuff. Well I went for a second trip and this one went WAY better. I lowered the tire pressure to like 24/30 and that fixed about 80% of the uneasiness. I took corners slower, rolled (the throttle, not the bike) and approached gravel at a walking pace. I even got on the 55mph highway for a short distance (although I was at WOT the whole time so I'll probably stick to the slower roads) I think the biggest thing that helped was being more relaxed and the tires. Although, i'm still very inexperienced and I still get nervous about defensive driving. Mostly I'm worried that if something happened I won't be able to react fast enough, or i'll over-react and skid. I'm still getting used to all the controls and from what i've heard the transmission sounding like it's gonna fall apart is normal, could someone explain that? Also you were very right, nothing went boom

So I'll deflate them to 22/29 before I go riding tonight and see how that goes. Hopefully nothing goes boom...

Something just occured to me, my tires were at 47psi up front and 40psi in the back. The walls of the tires say "47PSI FOR MAXIMUM WEIGHT" but the stella manual says 22 front/ 29 rear. I should mention these are tubeless tires, with good tread (the guy i bought it from said they were new). Could that explain my uneasy feeling in the back end and my lack of grip? And what PSI are the tires supposed to be at?

alright, so next time i'll definitely try to take it slower. And keep on the throttle. And overall just try to remember all the stuff they crammed into two days of riding...

Ok, so I just finished going through all the paperwork and the MSF course. I now have my full endorsement and a fully legal Genuine Stella 2T. ;D I just went on my first ride (about 10 miles, hilly/curvy and speed limit 35mph) It was a blast, but i'm little concerned about how inexperienced I am as a rider. While going through a roundabout I entered too fast and had to brake into the curb. Then later I turned onto some gravel to turn around and almost flipped the bike on me! Do I just need to take it slower or is there a bigger problem here? As an aside, my brights seem to have a loose connection somewhere.

While I love my stella, I've been waiting for my MSF class and was thinking what could I do to make it look awesome. Just wondering what you guys would do with a Stella and around $20-50 for improving looks
EDIT: Preferably it should be easily removable, with the exception of paint. If I decide I don't like it I don't want to be stuck with an ugly looking scoot.

i agree 100% with everything prodigit said, mostly because i had one. the engine and tranny are solid, and everything else is cheap and easy to replace. meaning less is better. they are also very good looking scoot imo. that said no atm50 will beat a stella 2t for power...

Ironically, I think I'll eventually get a tao as well, to mod the out of. But the Stella is staying bone stock because I'm too scared to ruin it.
EDIT: Exception: If the crank ever gives I might put a higher quality one in, but given how many miles are on it, I doubt it will...
