Hi all,
New to scooters but like to fix things so figured I would try and fix a broken scooter I bought for $20. Yes you read that correct. 2013 Tao Tao vip 50cc with 500 miles on it.
I replaced a lot of electrical parts and it was running great. For a minute. Then it stopped working all of the sudden. It fires up still but only when I give it throttle. The idle screw does almost nothing and the air/fuel adjuster is about the same. I can’t get them to go back to a normal idle. This is a brand new carb and spark plug by the way.
Meanwhile, my back tire is spinning pretty fast. Moving the bike if I don’t apply the brake. I can’t adjust the idle screw low enough to stop it from moving without the bike stalling. Even when I tighten the idle screw it still doesn’t maintain good rpm and the bike is sluggish to start.
When I remove the spark plug, it’s pretty black. Wipes off with a rag.
Any suggestions? I would love to know if it’s the clutch that’s broken or variator or bad new carb (from Amazon) or bad vacuum lines? I’m at a loss and don’t want to keep dumping money into this thing as it’s not worth it.
