Hi there, I need some help. I've been riding a 2004 Bajaj Chetak for thirteen years now. It's a great scoot, reliable, fun, a rock solid ride. Sadly, Bajaj abandoned the US market ten years ago, and since then parts have been getting scarce. Many of the consumables, brakes, cables, etc. are interchangeable with other bikes. I've also built up a small cache of parts, and even went so far as to buy a parts bike to have on hand if needed.
The thing is that I've decided to bore it out to 65 mm, so I can get another 10mph on the top end, and the capability for it to handle a sidecar. But in order to do this I need have a complete gasket set for the engine, and I've yet to find one here in the US.
So I was wondering, does anybody know of any dealers or individuals in the US that might have a decent stash of Bajaj parts, including a gasket set?
So far I've been a step behind in tracking this down. Barry at SF Scooter center(formerly the US Bajaj distributor) had a warehouse of parts, but for some reason decided to trash them last Feb. I also just missed out with Tim of Columbia Scooter who sold his cache of remaining parts to a person in Seattle.
I've checked ebay and the usual sites, but most of what I see there is for the 2 stroke, Indian version of the Chetak. This is for the 4 stroke American version.
I can always pay to get a set of custom cut gaskets, which is looking increasingly like what I'm going to do for this project. However, I'm still looking for any lots of Bajaj parts for future use that might still be out there. Having restored antique, orphaned cars, I 've come to realize it's good to stockpile as many parts as possible. This is a great ride I have, and I want to keep riding it until I'm too old to ride, then pass it on to somebody who will appreciate it.
Thanks for any help you can provide, it's really aporeciated.
