the scooter runs now, we got it back together and it runs great. put the plastic back on it today, not a big fan of the plastic, personally, but i may just build my own custom frame over the summer and just swap the motor out then.
thanks everyone for the responses and youre help!

put the starter clutch in this morning. put the motor back into the scooter. didnt have spark...again...checked the fuses. 2 of the 4 were blown, replaced them, started right up, took it for a ride, i cant believe the power of these little bikes. i cant wait to start rebuilding it the way I want. has some minor issues, but im barely 100$ into it so i dont mind dumping some more into it.

we tore the motor down slightly...as of right now, i think the starter clutch is bad...i dont think it would engage properly, and just spun on the crank without biting into the gear....causing it to spin freely and the magneto wasnt sending power to energize the cdi/coil. i dont know. it was strange. so i just ordered a new starter clutch and hopfully have it by friday so i can start it and put it back together..

thats the same diagram i have, tonight i found it out its pretty decent and close to my harness, not exact but close. I decided to pull the engine and everything out tonight, im going to take it to work tomorrow and hopefully tear into it at lunch time. ill find out a lot more about it tomorrow. ive came to realize, theres not a lot of wiring on these things, just the basics, plus a few small additions. ive also found out that mine, for some reason, doesnt have the starting circuit cut off relay...i untaped all of the wires and traced them out thoroughly, and it definitely isnt there. also, the freeze proof thing, what does it actually do? mine appears to have a corner broke off and i dont know if it would cause an issue?

thanks for the reply, i had spark, once for a few cranks, then it would disappear and never return. still havent got it to spark again since then. im opening the entire harness up as we speak, i would love to have a reliable wiring diagram from this scooter...Id REALLY appreciate it if you could post it or send it to my email... my email is: zms_2004@yahoo.com..... my moms boyfriend got the scoot from someone, and he said it had the air box with it, the kid had taken it off to try to get the starter out to rebuild it. well my CDI came in today, ive installed it, nothing has changed. im tracing all the wires out now, but im thinking theres definitely something wrong internally for it to have no compression, then 15 seconds of cranking and it will slowly build. im an electrician by trade, and this thing almost has me puzzled. a buddy of mine told me that he will come over and help me go over it, and tear the engine down and see what the deal is. i just cant seem to figure out why i would have compression after cranking. i mean, it sounds like it is spinning so freely then just slowly sounds like the battery is dying, then it would start to crank with compression....but i had it on a charger, and had 12.7-13.8 volts the whole time. so the battery wasnt dead or getting weak. it sucks because I am stumped. im just tracing the wires now for my own peace of mind, and seeing what controls what, and how this thing is setup. i have a freeze thing on it...i dont know if that would stop it...does anyone have a diagram of what wire does what on my CDI? its an 8 prong, but the harness only uses 5...one of the wires were pulled out of the harness and i have no idea which port it came from...i thought maybe the previous owner pulled it for the killswitch bypass, but im not sure...

ok i figured out the orientation of the cover, it was on correctly from the start. checked the valves, adjusted them, they were very close to being correct.still the same issue. now the only other thing ive noticed, is that the airbox is missing. would that be an issue? right now im just trying to get it to crank over properly, there is some decent suction coming from the carb when cranking over. i guess once the new cdi comes in, ill try it with that and hope thats the real issue. this thing is driving me crazy...

thanks everyone! once i get the scooter running, i want to modify the frame and give it a look, i guess similiar to a ruckus. id like to put a single headlight on the front, and lower the rear of the frame. honestly, i think the plastic on the scooter makes it look hideous...no offense to any owners, or anyone who likes the body, its just not for me. i just have a vision in my head and once i get it going ill start a build thread for it.

thanks for the link. i checked mine out, but i wasnt sure which direction is the correct way to be installed. so i tried to flip it, and ill give it a shot tomorrow. i have some knowledge on engines, not a mechanic by any means, just enough to get me in trouble. Also there was no ground between the battery and frame, just the battery and the engine. i thought maybe that would help with the issue it not cranking over everytime, but made no difference...i dont understand it at all...

Hello, I was given a 2008 Linhai 300 Aeolus scooter that I was told only needed a starter. Well I stripped all of the plastic off the scooter knowing there was more issues and this way I could trace wires, etc without any obstructions. Ive bought a new starter, installed it, the scooter didnt have a battery so I bought a new battery. I didnt have spark at first, assuming the ignition coil was bad, i tested it, had proper resistance across the primary. The wiring has been modified by the original owner, the original starter switch was replaced with an on/off toggle, rather than a momentary switch, they rewired the switch completely and have it grounding basically right off of the starter relay...either way, it cranks over, but takes about 10 seconds of constant cranking to build any kind of compression. i took the plug out today, tried cranking it, had spark, once it got to the point that the engine sounded like it built compression. I thought maybe the CDI was faulty, so i ordered a new one. I also had checked the igniton coil for power, and one time it would have 12v+ on both the orange and white/red wires, the next time it wouldnt...im wondering if maybe the starter relay is also going bad, because if I crank it like 5 times, it wont do anything. still have power to lights, but i lost power to ign coil and it just wont crank. Im an electrician so i have knowledge on electrical, but far from an expert. Ill redo the wiring after I get the damn thing running...I just changed the oil in it today to make sure it was fresh.
so I guess my first question is: Any ideas why it takes so long to build any form of compression? I dont have a compression tester but i may go get one to see whats going on with it. It sounds like when a car breaks a timing belt and the starter just spins freely for the first 10 seconds.

Hello everyone. Ive been following a lot of threads on the other forum regarding issues with my scooter over the past few weeks. I finally decided to join today. I was given a 2008 Linhai 300 Aeolus that has a few minor issues...so i thought. It seems like there is a lot of knowledge on these forums and hopefully I can get my scooter running soon...
