I bought this one in '08, It's been sitting around for a while... In '13 I bought the ecotrons EFI kit for it, and began to install it. I finally got around to finishing the install (you CANNOT mount the throttlebody upside down, fuel pools in the injector pintle, you can't have a rusty gas tank, etc. etc.) and am currently ironing out the various electrical gremlins (had a dodgy CKP connection) and we're just tooling around the neighborhood. Here's a picture of it along with my friend's ' elite 250.
I also have an '89 elite 50, and a spree. I've had a few other sprees, and a elite 125 (same one that was in the terminator) that I sold to my lawn guy, to my regret.

Got an oscilloscope?
You can look at the waveform being generated and go from there..
Is the pickup reading the magnet on the stator? Did you pull the cover already? Almost sounds like the system you are swapping in has a missing tooth wheel, and your CDI is firing on every tooth (this would make an almost constant spark as you describe)
Just a thought..

Lain, I just recently treated the inside of my riva's rusty- tank with 'kreem'.. its a tank liner, some sort of elastomer in a MEK solution- after it goes in, the solvent evaporates and leaves you with what looks like a sloppy painted surface... and it is coloring my fuel a bit as well. However it works perfect. Are you running a filter? It should catch anything that would clog your jets... look at these photos and see if your tank looks like this.... Hey,
I'm a bit confused- Did you purchase your kit from the ecotrons website? It's not terribly difficult to tune yourself, I used the default GY6 settings and changed the value for displacement for my riva 180, and it runs great out of the box...
