If Batman Rode a Scooter!! (Stealth Style!) Long exposure showing new LED lights!! Final look! Thanks for all the help fellas!! I may eventually look into a big bore kit, or upgrading my torque spring, but that would mean tweaking out my roller weights and carb jets all over again... for now, I want to enjoy it for a little while before winter!! Thanks again!!

FIXED IT!!! After struggling to start it for Ages, I decided there was nothing for it but to start again from the beginning, and check everything over once more... I had thought maybe water had gotten into the fuel, so I was taking the plug out to check, no water I could find, when I figured I'd just check everything... checked the spark, ok, but the plug seemed a bit cleaner than I expected... So, I moved on to the fuel, and the carburetor... I took it off and cleaned it all over again, doing absolutely Everything... still no start! But, again, my plug seemed 'too clean' So I began looking into the oil pump. I didn't see any oil flow Out of the pump, so I took off the lines and cleared them, Then, I bled the lines to be sure there were no air pockets. I was concerned about cranking it without oil, so I put a bit in the cylinder through the plug hole and cranked it without gas flow for a bit... Once I put the gas in, it began to sputter... Holding the throttle open a bit and cranking Finally got it up and going!! I let it run for a long while, and revved it up to burn off the excess. And, so far so good! Best of all, now that it ran, I was able to Finally Wire in my LED lights underneath!! I plan to tweak my roller weights a bit more, the 5.5g are proving to be too light (Great torque though!) But, luckily, I have got some 7.5g I might try mixing in half and half... It is the coldest day of the year here so far, and I am itching to Ride!! But, it has been a Long Time Comming!!

Aaaaaaargh!!! We have reached the point where my head explodes and I flip the damned table!! I got the new exhaust today, a tecnigas silent pro, because a clogged exhaust was the problem Last Time... I also finished up with the transmission... (new belt, variator, sliders, and roller weights) I fixed the electric starter pinion while I was there as well... I have already rebuilt the carb, checked the fuel and oil lines, put in a new CDI unit, New spark plug, and checked the Reed Valve for damage... But - STILL NO START!!! I generally kick start my bike at all times, but tonight, I put jumper cables on, from the car, and used the electric start... It cranked fine, and even gave a little hiccup every once in a while like it was Trying to start, the hiccups got a little more frequent when I gave it gas, for a bit, but NO START!!! Again, I am stumped!! I do not know what else to do!!! The Damned thing Should Be Starting by Now!!! This is stupid.

So sorry to take so long to get back to you guys... but I finally got the reed valve off and checked it - As far as I can tell, it looked Brand New!! Clean, no cracks... seemed just fine... (good, even for 14k) And I was so sure that was it! So, I ordered a new exhaust, it was in need of one! And I am hoping that will fix it!! I noticed when I was working on my variator that the starter pinion assembly was loose, and I think that might have been what made the noise I heard... Having already inspected the carb and fuel system, I can think of little else that might do it... If, God forbid, this new exhaust Doesn't do it, I got to wondering if it might not be a bad auto-choke unit?? I mean, it seems like it is flooding most of the time and, while I can inspect, clean, disassemble, and reassemble the rest of the carb, I just do not trust that choke... I will need to find one for a Daelim E-Five, but I am leaning toward a manual choke lever, if I can find one... my px150 has a manual choke and petcock, and they've never given me this sort of a hard time!! But, my exhaust and variator should be here in a few days to test that hypothesis... Now I just need to find the right sized Main Jet!!!

Ok, so, odd thing I noticed the other day: I finally got hold of a complete parts list for the S-Five the other day (an E-Five more or less) and I noticed that they listed the main jets as a #75 and # ... They often list two options for parts, euro and US I think, but the 'upgrade' data I have was recommending "moving up to" a #72 !?! They could totally be wrong (though I think the parts list is right) but if # is still somewhat 'stock' then I will need to go up from there, I should think... ?? What sorts of jet sizes are common in a 50cc with an upgraded exhaust?? I am specifically driving a Daelim E-Five with a tecnigas silent pro... Suddenly, I am thinking I will need to get even Bigger jets on the way!!

So, interesting side note: I purchased a new set of Dr Pulley roller weights before this big mess hit, and since I was a bit stumped on how to proceed for a bit, I decided to go ahead and swap them out the other day. My transmission and variator, etc. Have all been in the stock setup since I bought her and did the few little de-restriction tasks More than TEN Years Ago!! So, after getting the variator off (I did put on a new belt about a month ago) I was shocked when I opened it up to get to the roller weights and little shards of plastic came out!! It turns out, my back plate sliders had basically disintegrated and only the constant belt pressure had held them in place! What is more, without the sliders, my back plate had been grinding on the metal over time and had worn out a deep trough in the variator!! I have never had issues with belts (knock on wood) and have never noticed any rattling or debris in my CVT... I had even had it checked out the last (and Very Last) time I took it to the shop... So, I am now in the market for a new Variator too! I am very interested to see how this, and all the other improvements will affect the ride!! I happened to find a Good deal on a new exhaust while I was looking too! (Tecnigas silent pro) so, all in all, she is liable to run like I have Never Seen her run before!! (Provided she Starts!!) I have got a few guys in Korea looking into a new, stock, reed valve replacement... so, that is in the works as well!!! I would be excited if the whole thing hadn't been such a parade of discouragement thus far... Still, Vroom Vroom! Fingers Crossed!!

From what I have found, the Arreche carbs seem to be most similar to the stock Daelim's... perhaps 17.5 size?? The Gurtner jets seem to be the closest thing I have found to the form of the stock jets in my E-Five... but, I cannot know for sure until I order them and see... it would be nice if they would offer a few measurements but, as long as they are 5mm diameter, they should work!! I have read that they recommend #72 jets for the performance setup bike, but I can find No Help guessing the size best suited to the bike with a Tecnigas Silent Pro exhaust upgrade... it may be near the #72 mark though... I just wish I had some idea what the stock size was!! Still no luck on a manifold (and reed valves) the service manual shows the mounting screws in an arrangement I have not found so far - of all the stupid proprietary BS moves to limit part compatibility!!! I think the Arreche claims to be theoretically compatible with the stock, but I do not think I believe that just yet...

I get a consistent blue spark and I just swapped out the CDI unit a little bit ago... it is orange and is a performance model, but she ran fine on that one for a good week or so before this last breakdown. I could try to get a picture if it would help...
It will take me a little while to get to the reeds, but I suppose they're the next thing to check... I don't know where to get new ones if they need replacing, but I will have to rule them out either way... I'd still like to find a whole new carburetor if I could get one that fits... but these bikes seem to be somewhat rare and uncommon for parts... MR-speed had the deal, but they're shut now for good!! But, there's only so many more parts left I haven't gone over!

I apologise for taking a day or two to answer... I have been cranking it lately with half of the exhaust off - or rather kick starting it... But it may well be from flooding it while I try to start it... It generally doesn't do anything when I kick it... I which is to say, it sounds like it sounds if you kick it and nothing happens! The compression really Seems to be good, and I would be surprised if there were anything wrong with my piston rings... As for valves, it only uses a reed valve and it would seem odd that it might suddenly fail while riding it like that, but I haven't checked that yet, to be sure... I still wonder about the exhaust, though I can blow through it ok, it seems...
I just do not understand how I can be getting That Much Gas into the engine, with a spark plug that seems to be sparking well, and somehow NOT set the damned fuel on fire!! It just doesn't make sense!! Thanks for the help though... seriously! I do not know what else to do!!

Finally got time to work...
Took it all apart, checked float - no cracks or holes visible. Put it in a bowl, it floated ok... about half submerged Checked the valve, it Definitely cuts off gas flow in the 'up' position! Put it back together, kicked it over a dozen times or so, Gas STILL COMING out of Exhaust!!! (A few drops) Still NO START!!!
STILL STUMPED!!! (This is getting F-N Ridiculous!!)

It is looking like gas is still getting into the exhaust... While I checked out the valve and its seating, maybe my float itself is not floating like it should?? I haven't found a replacement for my carb short of buying an all new carburetor, and that's a bit much, and expensive!! So, I'm going to check the float for cracks or holes tomorrow... Maybe a half dozen or so times taking the carb on and off is just what the old bike needs! I bought her New a decade ago, and every mile is my own doing! 14k is a pretty big number at an average of 30 mph... I keep telling myself I owe it to her to fix this little quirk, and that she's still got another 10 years in her! Fingers Crossed!!

I have been looking at replacing the carburetor on my Daelim sj50 or E-Five because my stock carb is both getting old and difficult to upgrade when the time comes to adjust to a performance exhaust, and eventually a big bore kit...
The thing is, I haven't found any information on compatibility when I look at carb options... My stock carb doesn't give me a size to judge from and most carburetors I find seem to give sizes in mms to judge by...
Can most any carb be used? How would I find out which sort would be the best for my bike?? The cost of importing the same old stock carburetor, with its restricted capacity is very near the costs I have seen for carb alternatives... and having a good selection of jet sizes on-hand will make tuning it in future So Much Easier!! Thanks!

I took it off and kicked it a few dozen times... it didn't start, but there seemed to be gas in the pipe again! I checked the float, etc. already, but if the exhaust is clogged, it may be a buildup from kicking it before... I have a hard time finding parts in general, and replacing the whole carburetor for $100+ seems the only option if it comes to that... I feel like I've done all that I can rebuilding this carb already! I have been wondering about switching to a different carburetor maker if I need to change it out... Are most performance carbs interchangeable or universal at all?? I've not found much in the way of congruous parts so far, despite what I've read, my engine seems different than the dio it has been said Daelim nabbed from honda... It would seem to be its own particular design. MRP Speed had an exclusive deal with Daelim for parts, and they're out of business so I'm ordering direct from Korea at this point!

As I understand it, 2 stroke engines will not run without an exhaust... they need the back pressure. I have my eye on a new exhaust eventually, but the expense means it would be a while... (And I've had the hardest time finding bigger jets for when I do!)

I checked the float valve, it should be fine now... Yes, the exhaust had a buildup of liquid fuel... it would spurt out when I cranked it so I tipped the bike up to drain it all out and let it sit to dry...
To be clear on the Order of things: after it stopped this last time, I kicked and kicked, Then I noticed the gas, Then I went over the carb again to check the float valve, Then I cleaned out the exhaust fuel and let it dry, Then I put in new plug, reassembled it, and couldn't get it to start!
The exhaust pipe has a good putt to it with the end off (it has two parts) and I can feel air when it is all together (though not quite as strong as the streight pipe)... And, I have shocked myself checking the plug spark (by accident)..
I was wondering about the coil, but I do show a spark... Or maybe the exhaust? Though I do feel air flowing through it when I crank it...
As I said before... I'm just stumped at this point!! But, Thanks for the thoughts!!
