Thanks for the great advice! I can't wait to try venting the gas tank. I wasn't sure what to do with the existing line when I replaced the fuel tap so I plugged it with a golf tee. It sounds like that may be the issue. I will be working on my scoot over the long weekend so I will report back with my findings.

I recently purchased a 49cc, Chinese, 2 stroke scooter at a garage sale for $50.00!! Much to my surprise I was able to get it running with new oil, gas, and a spark plug. However, the top end was 20 mph and it would bog down and lurch. I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel tap and cleaned out the carb jets. I have had trouble finding an identical fuel tap, the original had 4 lines (fuel from tank, fuel to carb, vaccuum from carb, and vacuum to gas tank). I was only able to find a similar fuel tap that had 3 lines, its missing the vacuum line to the gas tank. Can anyone advise me on the significance of the missing vacuum line to the tank?? Also, the scooter will run really well for the first 5-10 minutes. I can run smoothly at 25-27 MPH. After 10 minutes, she starts to bog down and runs really sluggish (top end drops to 20 mph) including a backfire, here and there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
