Hey guys! I think for starters, I am definitely going with the alarm and GPS tracker (because, basically, if they're stupid enough to continue trying to steal it while an alarm is blaring all over the place, then the GPS will tell me where the not-so-intelligent thieves rode off to with it!). I'm also going to purchase a good, thick cable lock in addition for when I'm parking it at a store or school, ect. for added security. Land-mines would be effective, but I'm not sure my neighbors would approve of all of the noise!

Thanks for all the info, guys! Sorry for the delay in response, summer break is coming to an end, nursing school starts back in like... 4 days (must. make. it. to. graduation.), and work has been hectic!
I am still dreaming and drooling for my PCX 150, I've scoured bikes since the beginning of the year before my car ever even died, and that PCX left me day-dreaming about it. I'm still saving, and praying my job holds out until I have the full amount saved up--I have not-so-good credit, so I've been averaging a savings from my paychecks for months, and I'm about 5 weeks out from having the money to buy it in full. Then, my job can have their way, and I'll move on to new employment, but at least my scoot will be paid in full!
Anyways, the Daehan is still my backup. It does seem like a nice little scoot, and the guy at the bike shop had good things to say about it. He concurred what you all said, it's foreign, and still making its way into the US market, but that it has a good reputation for reliability for the price range.

That link to Rad Cycles is the store (and the exact scooter), he currently has for sale. He did say that he has some more Daehan's available though, if that one gets sold. I'm sad at the prospect of giving up my PCX right now (not all is lost yet, but it's looking that way for the time being), but I'm a bit excited at this scooter's specs. The only other scooters in this price range had a max speed of 35mph (Honda Metropolitan, for example), and I need something that goes a hair bit faster.

Ah HA! AND, I found the link to the official scooter (apparently the only one they make?), thanks to a link on one of those websites you posted above: marinermedia.com/daecruiser/index.html The specs on it look nice... 95MPG, 52MPH speed... hmmm definitely has my attention. Thanks for the help and the links, now I at least have a starting place in learning about this bike.

I *swear* it was on this board (the only scooter board I'm registered on) that I first even spotted the Daehan name brand. Weird that nothing is coming up. Maybe I'm losing it...

So I had all the plans in the world to buy a new 2015 Honda PCX 150 scooter next month, as my sole means of transportation to school and work, since my car broke down a couple months ago. However, unforeseen job issues with my company have started to surface (talks of lay-offs, ect.) and financially, I may have to put it on hold.
I still need transportation to school and my second job, both of which are only 5-6 miles. And some light grocery store shopping. With that said, I found a Daehan brand scooter at a local, highly recommended dealer about a mile from where I live. It's a 2013 Daehan 110, he's asking $1300 for it. Financially, much better than the $3500 and fee's for the Honda PCX right now (which I WILL own one day).
I cannot find ANYTHING on Daehan's when I Google the name, and no threads come up when I search the name on this board. Are they listed as something else? Can anyone give me some info on them?

Thank you guys! I've already got my helmet and gloves picked out, and will likely be picking up a jacket as well in the cooler months. I will also be taking a 2 day motorcycle driving safety course offered by our DMV here.
So far for security, I'm thinking to start: a GPS tracker in case it gets stolen, and a good, thick cable lock to lock the back tire to the near secure pole when at stores, school, ect. As far as my apartment, I live in a small studio apartment in the LSU area, so bringing it inside isn't really feasible, so I'm thinking that a good cable lock to the pole right outside my door, and a very loud little alarm system should hopefully be sufficient.
Thanks again for all the great advice!

Such great advice, thank you guys! I will definitely be investing in some security to prevent the drive-by thefts from lifting it as easily, but the GPS is also a fantastic idea so that if it is stolen, I can contact the police immediately and tell them exactly where it is. I will definitely be looking into that as well.

Hi all, new here and new to scooters! I will be purchasing a new Honda PCX 150 in September (been saving up the $$$, almost there!). This will be my first scooter, as well as my only means of transportation since I have no car right now, and I'd like to start preparing on how to keep it safe and secure.
I do not live in a good area (understatement). My apartment complex is in a very bad area, but is gated. However, instead of parking it in a parking spot, I plan to lock/chain/cable the scooter to a pole right outside my apartment door. Landlord has already given the okay, and my apartment is in the back of the complex, mostly out of view from the street. However, since this is my only means of transportation, I will be riding it to school (full-time student) and to work (full-time employee), as well as to Walmart and other stores, ect.
Where do I begin on the security? Because of finances, I'd like to start purchasing things one thing at a time. I will also be purchasing the theft protection with the insurance policy that I will be getting (I'm looking at Geico Insurance right now).
Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi everyone! My name is Danielle and I'm from sunny (and hot!) south Louisiana. I'm brand new to scooters, though I grew up riding ATV's. After my old clunker of a car died, the second car to do so in less than 6 months(!), I started looking at scooters as an alternative and absolutely fell in love. I've been doing tons of research for the last several weeks, and in about 8 weeks I will be making my first purchase! A 2015 Honda PCX 150! I'm a college student, as well as working full-time, so it'll be used for light daily commuting (about 5-6 miles from home to school, and home to work), as well as the enjoyable weekend ride as well. Great to be here, I've already learned a wealth of info just lurking on the boards!
