Urbanmadness, Your are going to love that machine! I bought my 2006 Scarabeo ABS last April and I never looked back. It's great on the highway and secondary roads, urban riding can be a challenge but it is a good scooter overall. Well built and lots of get up and go when you need it. The only storage is the trunk and side bags the tiny glove box is pretty useless, no under seat storage. Do you have the "shudder" at take off or did the previous owner correct that? I have the shudder but I will put in 19 gram sliders this spring and that should take care of the problem. If you haven't already, check out this forum www.apriliaforum.com Nice bunch of folks and a lot of helpfull tips (just like here).

Update - I did not buy the Atlantic 500. I found a 2006 Aprillia Scarabeo 500 for less money and with only 4,998 miles on it. Picked it up on Tuesday rode it home down Rt 128. Cruised at 70 with no effort what-so-ever. A good looking machine, has hard lockable saddle bags, helmet case, is well built and rides like it is on air. What a great bike, life is good......again!

I should have mentioned that the scooter is an Atlantic 500 not the Scarabeo. The last year of production for this model was 2004.

Has anyone here have experience with the Aprillia 500?
I did a web search but other than reviews (some positive some not so positive). Recalls? Problems? Service?
I am looking at a 2004 with 7K on the odometer and the price is $3,300.
If you have first hand knowledge please let me know. I am thinking seriously about picking this one up.
Thanks!

Some things are more important than a little rain!
alleyoop, I did as instructed. The enricher did not move or get warm. It appears that the needle is all the way out. I gently pushed it in about a 1/4" and it immediately came back out. I checked the connection back to the harness and it appeared okay. I will need to remove the panels to run it back any further.
Does this seem like an enricher problem? I don't mind taking the panels off but I want to have the parts at hand when I do. Is this a common part to get from one of the advertised vendors?
Thanks for you help.

Thanks alleyoop I will try that. It's raining out now so it looks like I might have to wait awhile or some night this week.

Ridecheap, thanks for the suggestion but I do not think it is that simple. Don't forget "When I gave it throttle it starts to sputter at 3100 rpms and then stalls out." That's why I did not turn the idle down. There is something else going on, I just don't know what it is and I am hoping someone has had a similar problem with a fix.
Does anyone know if the valves are out of adjustment will it cause the idle to rise? I don't think it would but I am no mechanic. I know it can cause stalling at stops etc.
Could it be dirty jets causing the stalling (fuel starvation)?

Hi All, My scooter has been silent for a year or more (250b machoman with Yamaha copy). I had a big C scare in worst possible area (you know what I mean guys) . After that I had to have a total shoulder replacement (yeah, life sucks sometimes) . I now feel ready to start scooting again. I can lift my leg again (no dog jokes please) and I can hold the handel bar without any pain . Put some fresh gas in the rascal and it fired up pretty quickly and after several attempts went to idle and slowly rose to 3000 rpms and stayed there, even after a 15 minute warm-up. My scoot always idled at 1900 rpms). When I gave it throttle it starts to sputter at 3100 rpms and then stalls out. If I quickly let up on the throttle it will go back to the 3000 rpm idle. Here is my question: What do you guys/gals think, carb or valves or both? I treated the gas with seafoam and ran it before the gas was drained and the scoot put away. I put on 132 miles since the valve adjustment. I have made no adjustment to the carb yet as I wanted to see what everyone's opinion is on this. On another issue, I was the guy over at the dawg that was giving away a set of 13" tires. I was going to send them to Jonwayrider in SC. But the health isses came up quickly and I never followed through. If jonwayrider is here I apologize and if you still want the tires they are yours. For you I will pay shipping. Thanks.
