I ride all year round, but since last week we have had winds as fast as 100km/h, I'm staying away from the highway till the crazy winds stop, lucky me I don't have to take the highway to commute.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? If you have a vacuum operated petcock, a vacuum leak disables the petcock, since air gets sucked from where the leak is located.
