Ahh, looks like it could also be the control valve, since the lines that were not clamped down tightly were the lines that came from that.
any input greatly appreciated.

Alleyoop, I am thinking it is not the idle speed, because when I got the scooter a few days ago it was running and the idle seemed very high and the gas tank depleted very fast. I parked it after 4 miles and it wont stay running now, but the gas tank was still depleting so I checked and there were two lines that had clamps off, so I put them back on, but they seemed inadequately untight.

Thank you Alleyoop for your attention once again. Again, it is raining, have to wait, unfortunately I am outside with two broken vehicles. Finally, Clearwater Mall caught on that I had a disabled vehicle on their property and tagged my van and trespassed me off the property. My AAA would not tow the van because the tags are expired, but the tow guy did take it off the property. The scooter I walked off the property across the street into another parking lot. Recently I lost my job because I was sick during the training and had a less productive day with a fever. I thought I was ahead of the struggle to get this scooter but ohhh no! Now I have two down and stuck here in the parking lots.
Today I am working for someone who paid my storage cost. Because I am sick I cant get rained on if I can help it. But, I will do what you say. However, I think it is something blocking the gas, maybe the fuel filter is blocked or the fuel line, or a blocked or leaky vac line.
I think I should go to NAPA and get the PVC fuel line and new clamps and replace all the air and fuel lines. So my questions now are: 1. Do you know what size hose lines I need - both fuel and vac air? 2. Do you know where I can find and buy the fuel filter module? Can you link me?
3. Do you think the Auto Choke module may be a possible reason for my problem?
Also it was mentioned that if the vent is blocked in the gas tank cap, fuel will not flow. But because the fuel tank is slowly depleting, I dont think that would be the problem. Hopefully, reinstalling two hose clamps fixed that problem. I tested this possibility by loosening the cap to see if the problem would solve itself. noooope.
Thank you again. Cat

For some reason my earlier post did not go through...
Thank you for all of your attention, Alleyoop!
I have finished the valve adjustment and put in a new spark plug and dusted out the air filter. I reinstalled two air/fuel hose clamps.
Valve adjustment seemed okay when I checked it, did it anyway.
The TaoTao CY50b still will not stay running. Have to really pump the gas before starting to get it to start. Goes for three seconds and stops
Dont know what to do now, can someone advise??? Thank you ahead of time, Cat

thank you again, alleyoop! Your devotion to inquiries on this board is a Godsend.
So I am still waiting for the rain to stop and someone sent me some money so I was able to buy the feeler gauge and I am on my way to buy a new spark plug. I will clean the air filter and replace the oil. But I have searched all of the manuals and CANNOT FIND THE FUEL FILTER in any of the manuals or diagrams. Searched all day.
Can someone help me with a diagram where the fuel filter is located on the 2012 Tao Tao 50 so I can clean it or replace it?
Thank you again ! Cat

Hello, Alleyoop,
One more quetion.. Since the video and another video say to adjust the valve at .004 and .005, you say .003. Please tell me which adjustment is best. Thank you.
Also trying to find the gap setting for the spark plug if you know it or know where to look.
Thank you so much. Pouring down rain here, have to wait for the rain to stop.

Hello RCQ, thank you for that input, but in Clearwater and Largo, the PD disregards private property and invades the Walmart lots every few hours through the night. They also disregard the personal rights of homeless and do illegal searches and a lot more. Ive been parked in the Target lot since May so I am okay, just have to be up and over to starbucks before the custodian arrives at 6:50am. The scooter will have to be somewhere else when I work on it, not sure where yet. Thank you, so this is just FYI.

Thank you, Alleyoop. I see you work hard answering on the boards here and it is an absolute pleasure to know a helper like you. Everyone here should feel very blessed.
The reason I asked for the manual is because I needed something to follow to get the skin off as quickly as I can and down to the parts to work on. I am outside and sleeping in my broken van in a target parking lot after loosing my job. Getting hit on my Honda last year and left in the ditch knocked into a coma (in a coma for a week, even though my helmet was on) has not helped either, plus I now need two hip replacements. My van is in a Target parking lot with no money left for insurance, so Florida has just suspended my license last few days... the custodian at the mall here is a terrible guy and will tow either of my vehicles if he figures out they are down, so I will probably walk the scooter off the property first, which is hard for me with my hips needing surgeries. Although I am a very enabled female and my first job was production mig welding for JI Case company, and running a 15 ton crane at Alcoa Aluminum in Bettendorf, Iowa... today I am 59 years old and have no help and only a few dollars left.
So I need to find something to follow to take off the retro skin and study it first.
Here is the story on the scooter. I bought the 2012 TaoTao CY50-b with 4950 miles on it a few days ago and it started fine, looks rough, as the skin was scraped and cracked around the seat and seat hinge was broken off, it had not been ridden much and looked like it had been stored outside for awhile. But it started right up three times and test drove okay and I only paid $200 for it, so I figured I could deal with a few problems. Along with the title the seller gives me a nearly new car battery and jumper cables and says the battery should be replaced soon. I have a charger so I got to the battery and saw it was fairly new but the ground wire was jimmy rigged attached to the terminal, so I fixed that and it took a charge nicely and during the next problem it was strong enough to turn the starter about 30 times and not deplete so I think that problem is solved.
I also cleaned it up as it was really dirty and bad looking. I ended up taking the flat panel off inside the seat and saw the carborater, and maybe this has something to do with the big problem I will describe in a minute. I put gas in the tank and filled it.
I drove it wheelchair scooter speed down the sidewalk for 3 miles to where my van is parked. It felt like the brakes barely worked and I had to hold down the left grip handle the entire time, but I got there and there were no symptoms with gas or stalling except that it was on high idle.
Then it rained hard.
The next day I tried to start it and it was VERY hard to start compared to the test drive. Finally it started by turning the handle for more gas about 20 times. It started and died within 20 seconds. I could only get it to do this much and this is what it has done for 20 tries now.
If you know what it is or could be, I also need to know what tools I need or where to go to read that.
Wow, thank you for reading all of this. My life may depend on getting this thing fixed.. so I am very grateful.

Hello to everyone here and especially those here to be helpful.
I just bought a 2012 TaoTao CY50-B retro style scooter and it is down after the first ride after the test drive. Luckily, I am not afraid to do mechanical work and I am good enough at it that I know I can fix this.
But FIRST::
Can anyone point me to a link or email me a manual for this scooter?? If you want to send it, it can be sent to catzcandu@yahoo.com. I cant say enough how much I need this as I am only a paper manual mechanic who follows step by step directions, otherwise, I am lost, which means I needs this very badly in order to survive the problem. Thank you ahead of time!
Second:: Is this model a 2 stroke or 4 stroke? The search for a question so simple has taken three days so far and I still cant find the answer. Please confirm that 4-stroke motors do NOT need oil mixed gas, which is what I think I have here.
Third: Is this a GY6 category scooter that I can follow the pictures and answers on the boards? If the answer is no, please help me with how I can use other's posts.
Thank you all for reading and answering, be sure to know you are "saving me". I spent the last money I had after loosing a job and this outcome will cause me a lot of grief if I am not able to fix this scooter at a low cost fairly quickly.
I am in Clearwater, Florida and this is the second vehicle down, the other one is my van.
