Hey guys, been lurking these boards and the a few others for the last couple weeks, and been spending way too much time watching youtube videos.
So this is my first scooter, got the new taotao atm50-a1 VIP Future Champion, 2013 model I think. Already drilled out the bolts on the carb and been fighting with the evil that is the D-shaped adjuster screw on the fuel/air mixture.
I'm about ready to go ahead and be done with this carb though, and I figure I'll just take care of everything else while I have it opened up. School is somewhat slow for the moment, but I'd rather not have to do anything other than adjust the F/A mix when winter rolls in.
So, a bit of background:
I love in Albuquerque, NM. We are at 5,000 feet here, so my carb was waaaay too rich when I got it. Got a new spark plug, but not the iridium yet. De-restricted the air box, drilled 3 holes in the end of the stock muffler, and adjusted the F/A mix and idle so its running okay now. Still much slower off the line than I think it should be however, and hills are awful. I get down to 10mph on the bike's gauge anytime I climb a hill. Also, it will not go above 6,000rpm while driving, so I think I need heavier weights and/or a stiffer spring.
I ride it to school every day with my backpack, so I figure together around 190lbs. I also take my wife to work which is thankfully downhill mostly, but together we are around 300lbs I'm sure. I know this is too much for a little 50cc -_- I thought I could be cheap and just deal with it, but it's proven to be too slow for my taste.
Been looking at other peoples' suggested mods for this engine, and it seems the consensus is as follows:
80cc BBK (Brings you up to 72cc) - I'm gonna get the kit from scrappydogscooters with a 47mm bore diameter.
20mm carb (at least) - gonna grab this from scrappy as well unless someone has any other suggestions?
2k torque spring for hills
1.5k clutch spring so I don't get run over at stoplights
High performance variator with 5g sliders - from scrappy again...
and I want a new CDI, right? Probably gonna just get the "DC Fired Performance CDI" from scrappy unless someone has experience with something better?
Thoughts on these part choices given my situation? I have worked on cars a lot so I don't think this will be too much trouble, but I'm sure I'll learn a ton. My biggest question is: will the BBK kit I'm looking at from scrappy (80CC BIG BORE KIT from
www.scrappydogscooters.com/139QMB_50cc_Performance.html ) include ALL the parts I need to bolt it on to my stock engine from start to finish? He says it does, but you know how these things go sometimes...
My other pressing question, is: What is the likelihood that I will need to get a new starter motor if I get a BBK? $80+ is a lot to add on...
Sorry if these are noob questions, but I gotta ask em somewhere haha.
Thank you for any and all advice you can help me with!
