Mine is a cdi coil though, no seperate cdi box like other scoots, I had a play with the speedo puck stripped it all and cleaned & re greased and it's going up a bit more but not great, so will buy a new one.
Still baffled on the low top end, I'll keep on the hunt for a de restricted coil and possibly try a fully de restricted exhaust.
Just can't believe no one else has worked on this engine before to offer advice? I've seen loads of these things on YouTube doing 60mph +

Where can you get the performance cdi coils from? I've looked everywhere and can't find anything that looks like mine, my cdi is complete coil, number 3 on this pic images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/electrical_bigsue0253fig16_c469.gifAlso regards the k&n im a bit wary of taking the stock box off as even with the restriction in the air pipe taken off it is basically not safe to start, revs away like mad until the engines warm, or bogs when trying to accelerate away. The speedo cable turns fine, I'll check out the vids on you tube though.

Also just to add with regarding the speed issue, when the bikes at say 40mph, it's like the rpms restricted, I can get to 40 in less than 10 seconds, and at about 1/2 throttle, but once it's there, no matter how much extra throttle you give it won't rev any higher, I've got a digital rpm meter coming so I can see exactly what rpm it's doing, but I would say it's prob at half revs, doesn't sound much higher than 3/4000rpm. As far as I know it's not cdi restricted on this model (suzuki ap 50 2001> model) there's no seperate cdi box, just the coil. I have checked the carb and it's opening the slider fully, cables all good and it starts accelerating straight away at about 1000rpm, just can't get my head around what it could be?

Hello there, looking for a bit more info please? I have my 50cc suzuki all build up and running like a champ But there are a few niggles, firstly the speedometer seems stuck dead at 15mph, it's very slow to register speed, and simply doesn't go beyond it, I know this isn't accurate because Ive compared it with gps at 40mph, any advice on what this could be down to? The speedometer itself is a replacement and was apparently tested before sale. And secondly it will only go 40mph after I have put a 70cc kit on there, a bigger carb and up-jetted 10% from stock to a 62 main jet ( does this need to be bigger? I've checked the plug though after a few test runs and it's perfect brown colour indicating a good running setup) The only things to mention are I am still using stock variator and stock rollers (6.6g) as the new one I ordered went missing, and the exhaust is a stock exhaust but without the restriction as the tecnigas one I ordered they sent wrong! Appreciate any comments, thank you

Hello there, I'm just In the process of buying myself some goodies to build my engine, to a spec I'm happier with, as I'm planning (for those who know the program) a top gear style holiday with the bike, so want the extra oomph. I chose to ignore the idiotic comment on my last post and proceed anyway, so this is where I'm at ....
It's a morini 50cc engine
I have a 70cc kit which has had some further port polishing and a higher compression cylinder head
Polini variator along with a selection of rollers
Tecnigas silent exhaust
I've bored out the air filter housing, increased both the bore diameter of the air inlet hose and air box to carb hoses to 35mm
And I've got a 17.5 mm honed carburettor as apposed to the 12 / 12.5mm stock carb.
Would I still need to upjet the carb with all the additions, or will it handle it ok without?
Thanks

Hello there, new member, been looking about on the old forum before just discovering this one, must say great site with lots of useful info. I have recently got myself a suzuki ap50 on a 2001 as a bit of a non running project, after a weeks restoration she is looking and driving good now, but the top speed is 30mph, so I'm looking to add to that a bit, and was hoping someone who has had one of these or similar could offer some recommendations for tuning. Budget wise I'm looking at about £200 / $350 and hoping to get her up to about 50-60mph It's the morini 50 engine in, but everywhere I look tells me these can't be de restricted on this model. I have a larger carburettor sat in the garage 17.5mm (the standard is about 12mm) but I didn't feel this would offer anything alone. I have removed the restriction from the air filter but it's not made a difference, other than that the scooter is stock. Only thing I don't want is a noisy exhaust as I live in a quiet village it would get complaints. Look forward to your replies Thanks Tim
