they're good prices but remember you're going to have to pay more than the sticker price. taxes, fees, whatnot. might want to check craigslist for a used japanese scooter though. if you have a friend with a truck its worth driving an hour to pick one up. on the other hand if you're not mechanically inclined owning a chinese scooter will educate you in a hurry

the only way you'll get to 60 is down a steep hill with a lot of wind behind your back

got it running last night. filled the tires, checked the brakes and took it for a ride. notice when I hit the front brakes real hard the wheel was hitting the plastic behind it. started digging and found one of the bolts holding the forks in was stripped when installed. skeery.

Its just amazing how little effort it would take for chinese scooters to be very competitive. Most of the vacuum lines were cracked and the most every hose clamp was put on wrong. sheesh.

Took a ride yesterday and picked up my new scooter (upgrade from a taotao 50). 2012 with only 500 miles and sat in a guys garage for a year cause he couldnt get it to start. $300. As soon as I got the cover off the engine I found a cracked vacuum line to the petcock. Still going through everything before I start it up though. New lines, sparkplug, etc etc etc.

raising the needle allows more fuel to flow up the main jet

no idea, I've only got a taotao 50. you should be able to tell if its bad by pulling the vacuum line from the carb after its run a bit and see if gas is dripping out it. also, maybe your new air cleaner is more restrictive?

I've heard of people having gas come down the vacuum line on the vacuum petcock that's gone bad. Other than that I'd say its prob your carb. maybe the float height is too high?

how about jb welding an aluminum finned heatsink to the oil tank area? I'll assume you're using synthetic oil already.
