2012 VIP 50cc Scooter has horrible acceleration! help

As the Title says my 50 cc scooter has horrible acceleration, it has been like this since i bought it new. It is the slowest scooter around when it comes to flat ground, going against wind, or going uphills, but it is great going downhills. I've had it going 53mph downhill.
I've driven my friends scooters and it is literally a night and day difference in their acceleration to mine.
Any help on what I could do to get this thing some acceleration/torque would be greatly appreciated!
