Hi, picking up a new TaoTao CY50-T3 on Friday, wanting to take proper care of it from the start.
I have a plan to change out the engine and gear oil, new vacuum & fuel lines, new fuel filter, NGK spark plug, new main fuse, check/clean gas tank, charge battery, etc.
It was mentioned when I first came here to ask before leaping so as not to mess up my new scooter first / then ask questions after the fact. My main question right now is regarding the carb. Threads here seem to point to it being lean as it comes, is this something I need to look into before driving the scooter at all? I do not have it yet, when I get it here though, I'm gonna be itching to ride it.
All other thoughts please share and thank you in advance. I was told for hills where I live that lighter roller/slider weights may help with getting up hills, and a tach would help dial in which ones, which makes sense. This is my first scooter. I've had motorcycles before, still have my license. This scooter may end up being the first of many ^ ^

Getting a new TaoTao CY50-T3 scooter.
Do I need to start out with conventional (non synthetic) gear oil in the rear end (break in period?) Is synthetic 75w90 okay to start with from mile 1?
Are there advantages to starting with one over the other?

Welcome Upgrayedd, Good to have you on the forum, You are on your way with your Tao-Tao, if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask before you leap. Many will leap then find out they messed up their ride then come on and ask the question. If your unsure ask , no question is a stupid that is how everyone learns. Alleyoop Cool, thank you. I gathered from reading around that replacing the fuel lines/filter/vacuum lines, main fuse, spark plug, engine and gear oil was a good inital take on it. I have enough valvoline dot3/4 brake fluid left from work on a vehicle to do a flush and fill on the brakes. My main interest in buying it was to have the great mpg for around town, and also no registration req't. There are hills around here, so I am not sure yet how the power side of things will fare. From what I can tell, it may be best to look at derestricting the variator, then possibly the carb + exhaust, and see where its at then, before considering a 72cc bbk or anything along those lines. If I can get her to do 35mph around town I will be content with that. If I end up wanting more speed, I may look at buying a second scooter with a bigger engine, and tagging it. I love the idea of getting better fuel mileage, either way

I found my way here from scootdawg, I just bought my first scooter. It is a TaoTao CY50-T3, and will be picking it up one week from now on Friday. I've grabbed manuals for the motor and scooter, and have been reading up around different places looking for ideas on the scooter and motor. I have a little bit of experience with engines.
So I got my basic list of things to do with it once I get it (replace fuel filter, fuel/vacuum lines, replace main fuse, pop out the cap on carb A/F adjustment, look for a restricting washer on variator, change engine and gear oil out)
I picked up a gallon of Rotella 15w40 for break in, and some Valvoline 75w90 (nonsyn) for the rear end to start with.
Hoping to pick up some ideas around the place, maybe meet others who are into scooters.
