I have an old scoot, it's a 1981 or a 1982 Bajaj Chetek 150 cc 2 stroke and it only has 432 miles on it. This is a scooter My Dad gave to me many years ago and I suppose many of you know the Bajaj Chetek's are a Vespa clone sanctioned by Vespa for them to make an almost identical scooter that has many interchangeable parts on it. I let it sit so long the engine froze up, and so I let a 16 year old aspiring mechanic take it and make it functional again. I didn't think He would be able to get it to run, but the day after he hauled it away He was back with it running perfectly. It didn't run because according to the owners manual it has diodes that self destruct if you try to start it without a battery so I didn't know what to do with it. The kid that took it wasn't aware of this problem so he returned it in excellent running condition and it starts and runs just fine without even having a battery in it. I'm looking forward to riding it a lot more in the spring, I noticed when I took it out that it is almost too fast for me to be comfortable on when on a dirt road. It rapidly accelerated to 55 mph and I never even got it into 4th gear before chickening out. I grew up loving the Vespa's because in 1960 my Dad bought one and we went for a ride every night after supper when I was too young to ride my own.
