Hey guys.
I'm brand new to this forum and this is my first post. I recently bought a Chinese scooter (no idea of what the make or model is) for very cheap. The bike was running when I bought it, but I couldn't get it to go over 25mph on flats WOT. I did a couple of dumb things and now the scooter won't start at all. First of all, I removed the variator because I read there is sometimes a washer that can be removed to derestrict these scooters. The problem is that when I removed it, everything fell out onto the ground. It took me awhile to re-assemle it but I finally got it right. The only problem is that there are 2 washers (I don't believe either is a restrictor washer) that I have no clue as to where they go. I'm concerned that maybe the bendix is not working correctly because of the lack of these washers. However when using electric start, you can hear the engine turning over but it just won't start. Secondly, I disconnected a harness that has yellow, green and white wires coming from the stator and on the other side of the harness those wires lead to a tube full of wires that i believe run to the CDI. I rode the bike for about 10 minutes like that because it seemed to give me a little more power. I reconnected the harness because I was afraid I was gonna mess something up. The bike started fine and ran the same as it had been. I rode for about an hour and then I stopped at a store. When I came back out, the bike wouldn't start. I had to walk it home and it hasn't started since. So far, I have:
-Replaced spark plug
-Checked for a spark (i do have one)
-Adjusted valves to .004 for both (could not even fit my thinnest feeler gauge before I adjusted them by the way)
-Checked for fuel flow from petcock by sucking on vacuum tube until fuel flowed from fuel line.
The bike still won't start, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a total novice at this stuff so please bear with me. Many thanks in advance for your ideas!
