Put scooter on center stand and rotate rear tire forward and reverse. There should be some play in the gears. As the gearing wears, the play will increase. My concern is my 22,000 mile machine's outside tire diameter moves about a quarter inch more than my 500 mile spare machine before the gears engage. I am not sure how much this translates to individual gear wear, but I am making sure my towing insurance is up to date and my cell phone charged.
