This board has helped me out a few years ago and I hope it will again. I have a similar problem with a Chuanl GY-6 scooter. Has been sitting a long time. The battery holds charge, the engine turns over, but does not fire. Past years I would try a few times holding the electric start for about 10-15 revs and it would eventually fire. This year nothing. Dead. I found a video on how to pull the carburetor and clean it, and will try this first. @ bdo1000: have you had any luck on progress? Thanks. Mark

Thank you all for giving me the confidence to try, and not belittling me in any way! Thing came apart ok, and yes, the belt is shredded. Long story short; it took some doing and a pneumatic impact wrench to get the variator off, and we have it all cleaned out and ready for a new belt. Hoping that will resolve the issue. Plan on ordering 2 belts to have a backup on hand if it happens again. Our dumb luck has been that a portion of the belt with the size numbers was not shredded completely and clearly legible. Thanks again to all for the assist! Attachments:

If you need physical help hit up Lykos. He is in IL, not sure if he is close to you though Thanks for the suggestion steelace - unfortunately Lykos appears to be in Northern Illinois and about a 4 hour ride from me.

alleyoop - Yes #1 - Thanks for the input all - Will open CVT cover and check for any further help needed, once we have the scooter back home. Is the shredding or breaking of the CVT belt something that is fairly common with these scooters? Will a better quality belt than the factory equipment remedy this for the future? Just being proactive in my curiosity. Thanks!!

Newbie in search of guidance - ScooterDawg members have been very supportive and helpful to me in the past.
150cc CHAUNL China-Scoot - while running at 50 mph for about 20 minutes or so, suddenly no power. Start up fine, but zippo - no go.
Nobody around here (Central IL) of the mechanic shops will touch the China Scooters, citing that parts are too difficult to find.
I am planning to tackle this own my own with help from a mechanically inclined neighbor, who happens to be an engineer.
I've not opened anything up yet (still located at a local shop), and I am hoping it is something that is not too involved or costly, to get my wife's independence back again soon. Perhaps it is just the CVT belt?
May I ask for initial diagnostic suggestions please?
As obvious as they may appear to you, please bare in mind I am new to this challenge still, and not afraid to give it a try.
Thanks in Advance!!
