new carb, manifold, air filter, and oil cap assembly (just because they are cheap) ordered. scootnwinn the spark plug is bone dry, and yeah, it sparks. and i dropped the ground wire on the block as soon as i dropped it it. |

checked the spark plug, it's dry, looks good, and sparks. i haven't checked the valves yet, but i get the impression that gas is going to the carb, and no further. even after everything, you can't smell gas at all around the scooter, it's VERY faint. also it ran for about half a minute, and just went out like when gas runs out, no noise, no thud, ping, anything. so i know that it CAN run, just a matter of figuring out what it wants, air, compression, vacuum, or fuel....

alright, so a bit of a bump here. i ordered a new engine, and dropped it in, foolishly left the gas in the carb (kind of grown in leaps in bounds since purchasing this thing) in my familiarity with engines and mechanical work. fired it up, and it ran for about 30 seconds and then quit. i took the carb apart, cleaned it out (all ports and passageways) twice! and i still can't get it to fire up, checked the spark plug, the carb is getting fuel (every time i disconnect the lines on the bottom of the carb fuel pours out) the manifold is creating a vacuum, but i still can't get it to scoot.... ;X i am going to order a new carb that comes with a new electronic choke, as well as a new air filter. my thought is that with the new engine, the only mechanical part that remains from the old is the carb.... so short of something else, this should be the ticket. also, when i took the muffler off, and installed it on the new engine, pieces of shrapnel came out  once i have time enough to rip the old one open, i'll post pics of whatever exploded. |

@rider  where is the fun in that? scootnwinn that is what i am thinking too. we picked it up for a song and a dance, and i stripped it down yesterday, and want to take the opportunity to put some of the performance parts available in it to to see if we can get it to cover those extra 2-3 MPH to get it to hit the top of the speedo. it will take a few weeks to get the project back up and running, but i'll post progress as it's made. |

yeah, the manual is a load of engrish nonsense, even the manual says 2 stroke, but every spec site i have gone to states 4 stroke. as far as oil goes ,the day after i got it i drained whatever was left in there and put fresh oil in, just under a quart. i found a replacement motor on ebay for 199, but i want to exhaust all options before i start shopping for a full engine swap.

so, i picked up a 2008 lance charming 50 scoot here in Seattle, it had some body damage (either having been knocked over, or laid down) but more or less ran as one would want a scooter to. 625 miles roughly, though it is now sitting at 713, with minor electrical issues that weren't much of a problem. i adjusted the idle which helped keep the bike from sputtering out, but today as i was riding home from work at about 35 mph, a horrible sound came from underneath, as the subject would suggest it sounded like a handful of spoons being thrown at a metal fan... pulled over (and i am not sure if the engine died before or after i turned the scoot off) i thought maybe something had wrapped around the tire, or got sucked in, or broken off, but all i know now is that the scooter will not turn over. i took everything i could off and peeked around inside, the belt that drives the thing is in tact, the chain underneath the cover of the cylinder is intact, the ONLY thing i found was the spark plug uglied and fouled with viscous looking grease with the top half ground off. i have zero experience with scooters, and was hoping that someone might be able to suggest some ideas short of ordering a new BN139QMB (worst case scenario).
needless to say it is a generic Chinese 50cc GY6 2 stroke BN139QMB.

just wanted to introduce myself, new to the scooter community and picked up a lance charming 50, used here in Seattle from a private owner, and low and behold, trouble struck.
i in no way want to throw in the towel, my wife loves the thing, and until we pick up a second we are sharing it and had a blast riding!
