I'm going to go with the same engine setup as in my other scooter, pretty basic mods, a Glixal 47mm/72cc bore kit and a Glixal 20mm carb with a main jet. Engine has just under 600 miles on it before the scooter got dumped, when I pulled the head and cylinder, it looked to be very low miles, a little purple degreaser and a soft scrub brush cleaned the head right up, the valves are almost pristine and seat perfectly, which is good since we're going to reuse it. The transmission side was nasty, black grease and dust/debris all over, but I don't see any signs of seals leaking, the drum brake was the same way, but again, not signs of seals leaking. I went ahead and gave everything a good scrub, now we're just waiting on the bbk and carburetor.

Cool. I love theme scooters. Are you planning to build something similar to this Cushman Airborne, or do you have something else in mind?

One design element written in stone is a sprung saddle seat, on this frame that means moving the gas tank. That's when I decided the gas tank was going to be replaced with something that would work well with the military theme. It took some searching but I found these Swedish military surplus 5 liter cans, pretty much constructed to the same standards as a full size jerry can. when sitting upright with the filler neck vertical they stand a little over 10" tall and the footprint is 7" long by 6 1/2" I also found 5 liter jerry cans in the traditional NATO style, steel as well I'll fabricate a tube rack that straddles the scooter directly behind the seat, the gas tank will mount on top of that, and I'll either mount big ammo cans on either side for saddle bags, or one ammo can and one mini jerry can.

I agree that OD was the better color. Khaki wasn't really used in Europe and the Pacific. It looks good on the Desert Storm Enfield though.

THAT is going to be one real HEAD-TURNER! Have a bone!
I too love military-theme rides. My Dad rode a Harley "45" in the Army while fighting in the South Pacific in WWII. The O.D. color really IS just right on your project.
Please do keep us posted as the project progresses! You'll definitely have some fun with this one...
Ride safe,
Leo in Texas

I have a naked La Rosa Designs saddle seat on the way, 1/8 steel, 13" long, 9" wide, that and the tank are key elements I need to get roughed in before I go much further. The tank is going to get welded to a flat steel frame that wraps over the rear to hold ammo cans as saddle bags, I'm hoping I can make a padded insert for the handle side of the tank for a back rest depending on where the tank and seat end up in relation to each other.
