Good morning, evening or afternoon riders.
Just had to deal with the toughest fix on my wifes scooter so i thought i would let yall know. Chinese TaoTao Zummer 85cc
2 weeks ago, my wife came home from school after class (working on her masters, and night time is the only freetime we have left) she came home all freaked out because the headlight and turn signals in the front stopped working, yet the rear turn signals were blinking away when i tried it, the headlight lookes burnt, i i figured all of the bulbs went at the same time, so i went to buy them and forked over the 27 $ in total cause i couldent wait for em online. Installed and nothing changed... puzzled, i uninstalled everything, took off any plastic covering, checked the connections for rust or blockage.. this was going kn a few hours in miami heat so i got fruatrated. Called my dad (who taught me all i know through fixing and modding our ATVS back in the day)
All he said was, check to see if powers getting to the line, sure enough, i opened up the cluster of wires and searched for the headlight and turn signal wires.... not only were they both frayed, but snappes from getting stretched from the handlebara turning right and left over and over while driving.
So i fixed it and added some wiggle room for the wores so they would not snap again. I called my friend who got the same scoot as my after i recommended it cause he liked the look. HE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, i went and fixed his for free, charged him gas money, then i called my friend who has a taotao baccio, same problem.
So im guessing, they forgot to take into consideration, they the wires might get pulled past the length they were set up for, because i have fixed more than 5 scoots with the exact same problem.
Check it out, im only finding the issue with 50ccs that are chinese..
Gonna look at my friends yamaha zuma125 tomorrow to see if its just the size of the scooter or if its chinese failing to do the right measurement/apply a small amount of wiggle room into their measurements.

I completely agree that Chinese scooters often have electrical issues. Riding around will definitely move wires around that are not well placed at the factory. I would add that you should also check the spark plug wire to see if it is too close to an exposed bolt on the frame.
Scoot on!

My son just bought a 2016 Baccio Heat 50 (made by Tao Tao) - perhaps I should check for this...

The wires used on this things are thinner than a hair and often disintegrate the moment you touch them, if you want to get rid of the electrical gremlins, rewire the whole thing with 12 gauge wire.
