I know that the tail & head lights won't work unless the motor is running and I'm thinking what ever senses that the motor is running to tell the lights it's ok to come on is the problem. Neither the low or high beams come on and no tail lights. However, the high beams come on with the flasher switch and all directional and brake lights work fine with or without the motor running. All bulbs are good and I checked for loose plug connections in the wiring harness and all check out fine. What is it that supplies the power for the head lights only when the motor is running. Is it the regulator/rectifier and if so could that be the problem? My scoot is a 2007 Lance Grand Touring P-250 made by BENZHOU,which is essentially the same as a Roketa MC-54B-250 with the Linhai motor.

 tscoot When you say flasher switch are you talking about the little switch on the left hand switch assembly that is spring loaded and turns off when released? If so this is called by the Chinese as a passing switch that when pressed gives 12Vdc from the battery to make the high beams only get brighter. The idea is to make the vehicle in front of you notice the brighter light so they see you are coming around them. Since you have said you have checked the bulbs and connections we now have got to start looking for voltage along with any possible bad ground issues. Question did this happen when you were riding down the road all of a sudden or did you just start it up and find it that way? Reason I ask is a bad ground or still even a bad connection is the number one reason if it just did this all of a sudden riding down the road. So let's do this I need you to start the scooter and take a volt meter and take a voltage reading on the battery with the scooter idling. Then take a reading with it revved up to say 5k rpm or so. Why do this? This tells me if the stator and R/R are good provided there are no bad connections here. If you tell me I've got good voltage at idle and even better with it revved up then we know that we do indeed have a gremlin other than a bad stator or R/R. If this is the linhai then you should not have a fuse box and the head/tail light circuit along with the instrument panel lights are on the same circuit. Get the battery readings and get back to me and we'll go from there. JR

Thanks for the response JR and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was away on vacation for a while (sadly with no scoot) and it took a while to do some testing and find the problem. All battery tests checked out good. After removing all the body panels I finally found the culprit to be a single bent contact pin in the disconnect plug on the regulator/rectifier. It had been arcing until it stopped making connection so I had to cut that particular wire out of the disconnect plug and reconnect them together outside of the plug and....VOILA! the lights worked perfectly. I rode it for a couple of days (during the daytime) with no apparent problems, but the first night I rode it a new problem arose. Low beam headlights worked perfectly and Hi beam worked fine whenever I needed to turn them on but after a 20 mile run of all AOK a mile before home, the Hi beams started flashing erratically when I turned them on so I rode the rest of the way home with just the Lo beams on. Results of testing the next day: Lo beam headlights and all other lights work perfectly but Hi beam wouldn't come on at all. However - the longer I sat there with the motor running and continuing to turn on the Hi beam it would begin flashing but the longer I ran the motor and/or revved up the motor the Hi beams would come on NORMALLY. It's almost like it's not generating enough power for the extra amps for the extra draw of the Hi beams, yet ALL other electrical components work perfectly.....including engine starting instantly. I could find no loose connections anywhere in the lighting circuit. Does this sound like a problem with the regulator/rectifier, or is there anyone else out there that has had this problem? I can run fine and legally during the daytime because the regular lights work fine, but have refrained from riding at night because of this quirky problem with the Hi beams and am missing some great summer night rides!! Thanks for any help you can give.

I guess if nobody has any knowledge of this kind of problem, I guess I'll just have to start replacing parts. Kind of a costly way of going about things but I have no choice. I want to start riding at night. I'll start by replacing the regulator /rectifier.
